Ritter & Smith Construction Inc

Ritter & Smith helped us create a usable and clever space for our small east toronto semi-detached basement. They were always accessible and brought in talented and polite tradespeople. The work was well-done and the finishing receives compliments from anyone who visits the space. We would happily use them again for our renovation needs.

Lighting, flooring (ceramic tile and laminate), dry wall for changerooms, painting, feature wall, minor fixes/finishes, custom built benches. Well managed, thoughtful, detail-oriented, excellent listener... like working with a zen master!

This was a medium/large scale project (city sized lot), designed to bring maximal utility, beauty, enjoyment and serenity to my outdoor space.

Not only am I THRILLED with the outcome – the joy experienced at its development is embedded in the structure itself. Truly. It hums…It really does.

Ritter and Smith (Robert, Roald - Alvaro too) are Consummate Craftsmen. Working together with them was this designer’s dream. I felt immediately confident and comfortable in their hands. With their experience and energy, professionalism and personal approach. They are committed to delivering quality, excellence – to solid, exquisite construction - that makes sense.

Each member of the team has an eye for design/detail that is keen and critical. Not seen with standard trades people. They share an artisanal reverence for the materials they work with, have solid, technical expertise, and they afforded me a refreshing brand of patience and practical consideration across the arc of the process. It was good. There was integrity. Care. Humour. We shared ideas. I changed my mind. We kept it moving and we had fun! The result was an end product that feels alive, inspired and elegant, in harmony with the environment it occupies, and as much a pleasure to look at as it is to BE in and interact with. Beautiful. Thoughtful. Strong.

Because of my experience on this past project, I will work with Ritter and Smith on ALL future projects for my home – outside and in. The quality of the work and the quality of the relationship are one and the same. What a concept and what a relief. What’s next includes an inviting, protective, front entrance structure that echoes the structure and attitude of the back - and then my kitchen and wet room.

Putting imagination and integrity together revealed a beautiful surprise just waiting to happen. I highly recommend this crew.

Project – 14’ x 24’ floating deck / pergola structure / fencing / planter box privacy wall
Materials – White Cedar / reclaimed Douglas Fir / pressure-treated lumber / custom fabricated powder coated steel.

Cleaning, renovation and improvement with many detailed decisions taken by Robert Ritter. Quality work while keeping costs down.

They repaired the damaged wall, window trim and baseboards and then repainted all of them.

Ritter & Smith were professional, careful, and their estimate closely reflected the final cost. Their work was precise, completely met and exceeded our expectations, and changed the living room experience exactly as we had hoped for.
