Painting

We got a flyer in the mailbox and just happen to need some painting done on a house. I called Revival and spoke with owner Murray and explained what we needed. He came down that night to have a look and we did a contract for the next day. Originally only needed part of the house windows painted but he offered a reasonable quote to do them all . We liked his work so we ended up doing all windows. Murray was easy to deal with, we highly recommend Revival if you need painting .

Plaster Repair

Murray did an excellent job patching and repairing the plaster ceiling in our 110 year old home. Its been nearly a year since he did the repair and its held up beautifully. You can’t tell the difference between the section of ceiling that he patched and the ones beside it. He finished the job on schedule, and met the estimate with no additional surprises. We were very impressed and would not hesitate to call him back for another job.

Ceiling water damage repair

Murray was always on time, laid out a time frame and stuck to it. Moved and replaced all the furniture; that which couldn't be moved was well draped, drop cloths on the whole area, plastic on all walls....approx. 1000 sq ft area. (Filled small holes I didn't even know I had.)
Left everything clean. Oh yeah, the ceiling.... it looks fantastic! So very pleased with the repair and subsequent painting.

Dinig room renovation, roof raised, Joists laminated and supported, Base boards done, New crown molding

Originally it was a basic ceiling repair due to water damage from a leak in roof ( Roofers fault ). After removing plaster and drywall Major renos had to be done, Joists and house had to be re supported. beams laminated, and everything needed to be strapped. The reno turned into a really big Job, Murray was very professional and his crew was efficient. once or twice a crew member made a bad call, but Murray remedied the situation very well, We are extremely pleased with how he handled the whole job, I'd recommend him to friends and family. Very reasonable prices for really good workmanship.

Bathroom Renovation

We were very impressed with the outcome of our basement bathroom. This project started out as a repair to old piping under our tub and very quickly turned into a full bathroom renovation.
We heard about the company through friends and had invited Murray over to see if he could be off assistance for our project as it was quite overwhelming. The estimate was complimentary and he was able to quote a price comparative to the other quotes we received.
We chose Murray has he was the only company who followed up and was able to explain in detail what he would need to do in order to ensure our bathroom would only need a repair like this once.

Murray was very helpful and informative in picking quality items within our budget. We had a price point that we needed to stay within and he was very respectful about that which was something I was told to watch out for with some companies.

We would definitely use this company again.

I have added pictures below of the final work, my only regret was that I didn't take any "before" pictures to show the condition of the bathroom prior.

Drywalling

We live in a home that is 120 years old. This spring we decided to re-do the main floor. We demolished and removed the old plaster / lathe and insulated ourselves. We then had Revival put it back together . as you can image nothing in the house was square or level due to the age. We could not be happier with the job that Murray and his crew did. He recommend many different upgrades to us some we went with such as crown molding some we didn't.
He did not have the best of working conditions as he had to work around other trades. We had a very flexible schedule because of the other trades and Murray was always able to accommodate us.
There was never a problem with additional cost. I have never written a review before. This morning Murray came over and asked me if he could take some pictures { before/after} to put on his website I said sure why not? He told me about this review site and I couldn't believe that the prior reviews were talking about the same company. If Murray does put up the pictures take a look and you will see why we were so pleased,

Roofing

We hired Murray to repair a leaking ceiling in our bathroom at our cabin. He claimed to have every credential in the world to fix it, he assured us over and over again that he was credible, capable, and responsible. All of which are NOT true. The roof was in poor condition, leaked and needed to be torn out and replaced. Murray cut out (only) half the roof and replaced it. He then put shingles on it. When we seen the repair (he insisted on doing it when we weren't around), light was visible shining through the ceiling, it had leaked water all over my newly painted wall, all over our vanity, and counters down to the floor. We called him and he came and sprayed it with foam. Today, as I sit here, water is pouring through the ceiling as it is raining. We contacted him today (he lives a few doors down), and he became rude, ignorant, and insulting. His excuse is that it is our wall that is making the ceiling leak. But the leak is coming from a huge crack in the wood he used, and is in a completely different area than the initial leak. He was full of attitude and claiming everything had to be repaired and replaced in order to fix the leak, stating it would be thousands to repair. Such repairs are NOT needed at our cabin. I am extremely disappointed because we hired Murray due to the fact that my husband just had back surgery and could not make the repairs himself. Because we have cabins in the same area, and because he assured his work so much, guaranteeing satisfaction, we are now completely jaded and will never ever ever EVER refer REVIVAL Custom Walls & Ceilings Inc.

Company Response

Revival Custom Walls & Ceilings Inc. has never entered a contract with Jackie from Edmonton. Revival Custom Walls & Ceilings has been operating in Manitoba since February 2015. There has never been a financial transaction received from this individual putting false claims and review all over the internet as Jackie, Jaclyn. This individual is deliberately trying to destroy a companies reputation. Anyone can clearly see from those pictures posted that the individual took a screw driver to the interior of this ceilings to make it look like a horrible job. If you look carefully at previous negative review you can see how she copied some of the information in different words from it. Revival does not do roofing and always has a written contract when doing business. We will be filling a claim with the courts for Libel under the defamation act if these reviews are not removed immediately by Homestars and Jackie.

mudding and taping

I would not recommend Murray of Revival Custom Walls and Ceiling as he misrepresented himself as a professional in the drywall/taping business.

We hired Murray to tape and mud the main and upper loft of our newly built house. He was local and had the credentials we were looking for - Better Business Bureau Member and he represented himself as a "unique" contractor one of only a few who had a "pre-paid" licence (later we discovered the registry did not have his name listed on the registry). He told us he would do a good job ( his contract states a high standard of
work) and would be done the job on May 15, 2014. 9 days in total. Well it stretched out to 20 days and then abandoned the worksite without completing the work.

His contract states hours of Mon to Fri 7a-5p. He would be at our place past 10p and 7a on the weekends but only put in 2-4 hrs a day - sometimes coming only for an hour - he continually explained he had to repair another site where we put the wrong corner molding - later he changed his story to tell us that the customer changed their mind - then he changed again to the fact he took another job.

He had one bad review with the BBB, but we weren't too worried because things can happen - after all its construction and things don't always go as planned. We did sign a contract, he reminded us of this anytime we saw major flaws in his work - during that process he also bad mouthed our builder which I didn't appreciate. We really liked our building contractor, we got along fine with our builder and were surprised.

His process started out poorly, Murray showed up a day late, he did call to inform us but then things didn't seem right - he would only show up late in the day - as if we were the night time project. As we watched his process, there didn't seem to have any rhyme or reason to the process - Started first coat in some places and then didn't finish, then started some second coat had first coat in some and then started what he called the POLISH COAT - when we could tell that there were multiple areas first coat was not even complete.

He asked for more money part way thru that wasn't in the contract, trying to charge us more money to go around the timbers that were there when he did the quote. Then, we found him priming and sealing walls while still sanding, and in fact some areas were covered in primer before they were ever sanded or had first coat of mud. The walls are now like sandpaper, and many places are uneven as he just piled on more mud where he forgot to sand.

My breaking point was when he primed the feature wall in our home "purple". He had left over primer from another job! So his thoughtlessness created more work for himself and more tension with him as the contractor.

He said he would clean up every day and didn't - which complicated things when he started priming and sand and dust were everywhere. The walls were so bad with imperfections and the corner beads were bubbling so bad, because they were not done properly. You can see the seams on the feature wall because it appears as only one coast of finish was applied. These were brought to his attention and he said he would fix - yet never did.

After this entire process, he basically ran away from me leaving the invoice in the house saying we had two days to pay or it goes to a collection agency. Murray never walked me through the house to show the completed work, ask for my feedback etc. After he abandoned the house, we noticed the corner beads were not fixed and you can still see the seams on the feature wall. He walked off the job before it was complete.

He breached his contract many times with hours of operation, high standard of work, and use of off brand paint (he made a big deal of the type of paint we had to use to retain the warranty).

If you want someone that is honest and does a high standard of work this is not the company. In fact, we are not sure he has done many drywall jobs at all - based on the workmanship and process.
