Junk Squad

When I found them online and they claim that they have big trunk and it is cheapest junk removal in town. So I hired them to remove some furniture, appliances and garbage from my basement (1/3 of trunk). On that day I was told I need to pay extra landfill fee for 14 garbage bags. So we weighted them (300 kg). When we got the second charged it was over 900kg and we had to pay over $200 for 14 bags! We already paid $30 for mattress landfill fee. They just over-charged us!

They told me they would charge my credit card once when the garbage was in the truck and then later there would be a small landfill charge PER TON, which in Toronto is $115 A TON. I told the guy removing the trash, "No problem; I only have a few bags of garbage so I won' be charged anywhere near the amount for a ton!"
Guess what? They billed me for several TONS of garbage. They billed my credit card not once or
twice but three times already. I have paid almost $400 for them to dispose of a small amount of garbage. Definitely NOT recommended.

Very simply: they mislead you through and through and then apply bogus, outrageous charges afterward.

I could write how I received the quote, how I was misled and "incorrectly billed", and how I am waiting for the company's response to my inquiry which I was told to make via email when I called directly, etc. Waste of time. They know what they are doing. This is who they are and at THAT, they are perfect!

Instead let us put this whole thing in perspective. The price per tonne of solid waste in Toronto is $115.

I was charged $185 landfill charge for disposal of household waste that contained old items broken and in usable condition, many of which could be donated. No chemicals. No dense items. No heavy items. No oversize items. In total: there was maybe 125-150kgs in total (I am being generous) - the two guys loaded the entire load by hand in 5 mins. So even at the 150 kgs, the company charged me 10 times more or so.

Get it? Judge for yourself.

Do not use this company for junk removal in Ottawa. They use inflated landfill fees to rip you off. Then they will not return calls when you make enquirIes. Be very aware.
