Quick Summary: The Person, Jeff, was on time, personable, courteous and knowledgeable. The Product: Quiet, Energy Efficient.
We noticed our west facing large acrylic domed skylight started leaking back in November/December. In January, we contacted a few companies and sent pictures by email of what we were dealing with. Jeff from Moore Skylights was the only company to contact us and give us advice (even if we didn't go with his company). He was very personable and very knowledgeable. We felt very confident in his company and decided to replace all 3 of our skylights even though there was no interior evidence that the other two were leaking.
Jeff recommended the new Velux Triple Pane skylights for our home. Due to the unpredictable weather conditions this year, he kept us updated between January and April. When we agreed on a date, he called to let us know his ETA and was prompt. He placed drop clothes where needed. Upon removing the old skylights, he showed me the old deteriorated flashing; it pretty much crumbled into bits. Turned out the other 2 skylights were just beginning to show signs of leakage but had not yet penetrated the interior side of the ceiling.
He went above and beyond expectations:
1. Without charging us extra (Thank you): He informed us and took pics that we had pre-existing gaps between the skylight shaft and the attic. He sealed up the exposures that measured up to an inch that was never sealed by the original home builder. (This would explain why we had so many bugs in these rooms in the summer and why these rooms were extra cold in winter)
2. Our roof shingles 'rainbow red' had been discontinued but Jeff was able to locate some elsewhere. (Note: Old roof singles are approximately 12 yrs old and obviously have faded over the years compared to new. We expect the new shingles will fade and eventually colour match over time.)
The Product: 3 Skylights ~ 46/46, 2 x 46/26 We have noticed a huge difference after replacing our skylights. Temperatures in these rooms are consistent with the rest of the house. Compared to the old acrylic dome skylights, the triple panes are a lot quieter when it rains. Noise reduction comparison of acrylic dome vs. triple pane: approx. drumming on a tables vs light static cling. Nice not to be woken up in the middle of the night due to rain drumming on the skylights.
