Pool collapsed

My pool collapsed after 7 years. The steel panel rotted out between the inside liner an outside coating directly under where the holes were cut for the return water and skimmer basket. It looks like it wasn't sealed properly and allowed salt water to leak inside. The pool is intended for salt water and was installed by Boldt. I called Boldt to try and get someone to visit to assess what happened. After several attempts I finally talked to the service manager, emailed him pictures and was waiting for him to discuss with the owner and get back to me. Several calls and 2 months later I was told the owner is very busy and difficult to get a hold of. I was really looking for someone to assess the damage and tell me what went wrong. The pool warranty is only 3 years, but I expected to get a lot longer life. Never any issues with the liner, just purchased a third saltwater chlorinator for just under $600 just before it collapsed. I purchased everything I ever used for that pool from Boldt but I will never step in the store again. My advice if your going to purchase and above ground pool: Talk to them about warranty on faulty installations and verify the installer knows what they are doing.

in ground liner install

From Kari in the office coordinating my pool liner install, to Mike and Gerald actually installing the liner, it was truly an excellent customer experience. All of the staff were so nice and I appreciated the constant communication, keeping me in the loop at every step. Thank you to Mike and Gerald for doing a fantastic job, I really appreciated the care you took for the install.

Poor communication but okay in the end

I posted earlier about a disaster with a heater I purchased from Boldt Pools last year. Things were made right in the end, but the moral of my story is to be persistent about your problems with products under warranty. Their customer service team will eventually listen, but dont be afraid to escalate it to management if front-line staff are unresponsive. Boldt management does seem to genuinely care about their customer service pledge.

Pool Heater Servicing

I pleased to say the dollars part of my complaint about Boldt Pools is low, compared to some of the reviews I read... so I guess I'm kinda lucky.

I went into Boldt (St. Catharines) to schedule a servicing of my pool heater. I was told they have a program where your pool heater can be serviced in both the spring pool opening, and the fall pool closing for a modest amount of money. ($ 149/year). This sounded good, so I bought into the program and we scheduled a day for the tech to come. I was told I would receive an email 1-hour prior to the tech's arrival. On the day of the scheduled service I called Boldt's office at 1:30pm, and was told the Tech wasn't working that day because he had to go for an MRI. So that resulted in 1 day of my life being highly inconvenienced.

The following Monday, the whole scenario started again. I went to my office, which is only 5 minutes from my house, but I knew I could run back to the house after I received the email. I received no email, so I so I called Boldt to ask when tech was coming. I was told the Tech had already been to my house, and since the cover was on my pool the Tech left ! I explained that I keep my pool cover on until all the leaf buds fall off my giant Maple trees around my pool, and the Tech would have seen the pool was 100% open, if he would have put ANY effort into the job at hand. The Manager of the Service Dept at Boldt chose to argue with me about how abnormal if was to keep the cover on my pool, even if I had the filter and skimmer running....

I firmly, but professionally insisted the Tech return to the pool today to complete the service call. She said she would "try" to reach him, and see if he could come back. I politely said "thank you" and thought the call was over.... But it wasn't. The Service Manager failed to hang up the phone, and I was able to listen to her talk about me to her co-workers, stating what an "unkind word" I was because I left my cover on my pool, and I thought it could be serviced with the cover on...

I'm now 4 hours into the 2nd lost day of my life, wondering if the Boldt Tech will show up. Over the years, I have purchased all of my pool chemicals and various pool tools & equipment from Boldt (versus on-line suppliers) thinking that having a Service Dept was beneficial in your pool company. Based upon the last couple of weeks with Boldt's Service Dept., I'll just buy everything on-line. I don't have to drive to Boldt's store, and nobody on-line every argues with me about waiting for all the leaf-buds to fall off the trees before I remove the cover...

BTW.... Still no emails from Boldt about there scheduling a return appt.

Pool reno upgrade and new liner

Had a quote from Boldt last year for an upgrade to my 40 year old inground which began in the fall to install new piping, returns, skimmer and fittings to locate back to the pump. All hard piped this time and cut into the existed concrete pool deck and then patched up. Was overall satisfied with the work by Jason and his team with this and very happy with Caitlyn who took care of the correspondence and in store quotes and financial matters. They were very prompt with the new liner install in the last week of May of this year and was extremely happy with the outcome. The liner fit wonderfully and looks great. Jay and Mack did a fantastic job and don't want to leave out the young fellow who helped as well but don't have his name. I was amazed how fast they did it. When the pool was emptied they had the old liner cut out and neatly stacked and then made some minor repair patching and saying my pool was in quite good shape for a 40 year old pool. The new liner went in nicely and then started filling it with water....and all that in only 2 and half hours. They came back the next day when the water was filled to install the skimmer plate and returns and remove the machine that pulls the liner tight as it fills. Would definitely recommend them to others on their workmanship and how well it all fit. Very polite workers and of course also the staff in the store. Caitlyn was fantastic and very happy they were able to do the job on time.

Pool instal

I was totally disappointed in the Boldt/Pioneer experience with the install of our pool we had. Let me 1st start by saying Bill (St Catharines Store). was a great sales person, he truly knew his product.. we did have a rough start but we were on the same page by the end of the sale. I would highly recommend Bill to anyone looking for a new pool.. With that being said I would NOT recommend buying a pool from Boldt as the Pioneer Team are the ones that does the install. I have never had a pool installed like we just had, looks like a unprofessional installed it!! We were going to have a friend of ours install the pool but decided that for the warranty purpose we should have Boldt install... BAD DECISION!! It looked like the crew that came out just slapped it together and left! We had many many concerns and had to have another crew come back to fix it! The 2nd crew did a better job but our biggest concern was not really addressed properly!! The pool was not installed properly and left a very apparent dog leg in our pool. Yes it is an oval pool and I have been told by Dylan that it can't be fixed! When Dylan came out to look at it with my husband he was appalled by how it was built and said they would fix it.. We also sent pictures to few other people at boldt who were also shocked and said it should not look like that..However I Just got off the phone with Dylan who said there is absolutely nothing else that can be done! Its normal.. pretty much told me to learn to live with it!! I guess after you spend $17,000 on a product and they have their money nothing really matters!! I understand I am only one consumer of the product and my complaint will not change the outcome BUT I WILL NOT recommend Boldt/Pioneer for pools.. I wish the out come had of been better and I felt like my complaint was not heard! Like everyone else as long as they get their money nothing else matters!
Just to also clear this is not our 1st pool from Boldt but it will be our lastI was totally disappointed in the Boldt/Pioneer experience with the install of our pool we had. Safety Cover for pool

Boldt pools has had my safety cover to be copied to make a new one since May2021. This is now Oct and we still don't have a new one. One story or fib after another. This the most frustrating company we have ever had the dis-pleasure of doing business with. Never again. Will recommend anyone but Boldt Pools.
