Incredible Support dealing with a MASSIVE Downsize and Relocation

The team that helped support my family in an EXTRREMLY large difficult, and complicated downsize and relocation project, became almost family. The process of downsizing is hard, and comes with a battle of emotions. The team we were lucky enough to work with helped my family through a really hard process which would never have been accomplished other wise. Mary, Sierra and Pauline were KEY highlights and supports in all aspects of this project. They respected our emotions, our belongings and our time. Their teams were organized, efficient, helpful, understanding, supportive, and thorough. They helped plan and execute a down size, a contents auction, a move to storage, a move out of storage and a relocation and unpack to settle in. Their communication, understanding, and compassion were incredible, and I was sad when the project was finished as they had become almost family. Thank you for making the process so incredible, and simple.

The company was easy to contact. Efficient quoting process, full understanding of the scope of what was needed. ALL aspects were handled. I only had to lift a finger if I wanted to, and they made me feel like I was part of the process in helping them. All boxes, paper and supplies were brought we did not have to worry about anything. Logistics of disposal, recycling, donation, auctioning, moving, and storage were handled for us, and included us in the conversation and planning. I would HIGHLY recommend this unbelievable company for your needs in any capacity small or large.

Decluttering

Rosalind and her team helped us clear out a storage unit of belongings after my mother sold her house and prepared to move into a retirement home. I was amazed how quickly we were able to schedule the job and how quickly and easily they were able to sort through and clear out years of 'stuff'. Her team was really patient and helpful with as we went all her belongings. This took a huge weight off of us as we help my mother into her next stage. Communication from Rosalind was in stark contrast to other companies I queried - I would re-hire her in an instant!

Almost as good as Star Trek's Transporters

I'll start in the middle.

When the downsize appraiser saw what I had she simply remarked , " You have five generations of goods to be handled.". She was correct, Great grandparents papers, Grandparent papers and momentos, Parents goods ,momentos and papers, fifty years of marriage goods,momentos and papers, and two children's (now adult) goods. All this was sitting in a house which was about to be sold and had to be cleared.

The task was impossible to even begin to plan.

And now to the beginning.

At the suggestion of my realtor I called Simply Home Downsizing (SHD). The initial assessment focussed on the reality of the situation and shocked me. THe consultation and suggestions that came next were a God sent solution.

The SHD lead assigned to the project came up with the complete , timed out, and estimated cost plan to move me to a new place which was a third of the space I had in the house. Here is what they did for me.

They identified all the material which was essential to take to the new place. This was packed and taken to a storage area. (moving team and cost was included

The residual material including heavy equipment was then grouped into lots for auction, arranged by SHD. The SHD lead then oriented the auction team (third party) to the lots which facilitated the auction. In the end only two (!) pieces of glassware remained. The house was bare to the walls and sold four days later.

But the story goes on. SHD four weeks later completed the job by transporting all my goods in indexed order to my new home, to my daughter's home and into temporary storage near the new place.

And wait !!! They unpacked all my kitchen goods and set up my new kitchen, an office and a bedroom ! I was up and running in the new place.

The work this group did for me saved my sanity and all but eliminated my anxiety as well as removing the physical strain I and my family would have had doing this on our own.

You might think this adventure was just a complex move but it was also a life lesson. My children and myself learned how to let the past go while keeping the memories. SHD staff lead us through the process of questioning the actual value of things. They showed us how to preserve the past without holding onto things we knew in our hearts represented memories but really no longer fit our present lives. We took pictures of memorabilia which we were then able to let go. It was the letting go which became the best release as I (we) moved forward into a new part of our lives.

My children and myself continue to downsize, as a result of our working with Simply Home Downsizing staff.

Simply HOme Downsizing staff are incredibly efficient, ruthless in their logic, compassionate and helpful. One might rightly say they are humane, non-judgmental, facilitators of a potentially traumatic event in a person's life. They are worth the cost if you value your personal well being when you have to downsize or if you just wish to downsize.

I would hire them again in a flash.

Downsizing

After our parents past we were left with a house full of things that we either didnt want or had no idea what to with. There was lots, it was overwhelming.
After contacting Simply Home, Rosalind guided us through the process with professionalism, confidence and understanding. In less than a month our goals of clearing out the generations of stuff was realized. One auction to go of the more valuable collectables and its done. There is no way we wanted to or could have done this on our own. I cant recommend Simply Home high enough. Just the stress relief alone is worth using their service not to mention the competence they demonstrated.

Decluttering

Great service. I had a storage/furnace room and a garage full of stuff. I didnt know where to start sorting and clearing out unwanted items. The Simply Home crew came in over 2 days and sorted items into keep, donate, garbage then arranged for the unwanted items to be carted away. They then neatly organized the items I wanted to keep. I couldnt have done it on my own and Im very pleased with the result. I can now park my car in the garage! The crew of 4 was very friendly, prompt and efficient.

Estate clearing

Im so glad that I had Simply Homes to help me in my time of grief. The responsibility to empty my family members apartment after her death and make sure that her belongings were dealt with in a respectful and timely manner was daunting. Pauline had the experience and know-how to accomplish the job and was very reassuring to me from our very first phone call. She made herself available to answer questions, she provided an on-site visit and estimate, she was flexible and efficient and very pleasant to deal with. I especially appreciated that she was able to adjust our contract when the circumstances in the move out process
changed and that she was willing to make a special delivery in order
to be helpful to me personally. She and her associate were right on time and the whole job was completed just as planned. I wholeheartedly
recommend Simply Home Downsizing.

Downsizing and Staging

Organization and staging

Simply Home Downsizing has been our go-to organizer and stager 5 times.
First, we needed to declutter our home of 20 years and called Roz at Simply Home. It was a big job and took several days.
We were so impressed, we asked if they would stage our house when we put it on the market. Magnificent job! Our real estate agent was also impressed and asked them to stage other houses.
We moved to a condo and asked Simply Home to organize our space. More miracle ideas and arrangements.
Condo living wasn't for us, so we asked Simply Home to stage it for sale. We sent Roz pictures and she made arrangements for staging furniture, mirrors etc. She came with her crew and transformed the condo in a couple of hours. It sold right away.
We moved to a house and were so busy, we didn't really settle in and make the house feel inviting. Time to call Roz at Simply Home! Roz, Flavia and Sierra came this week and transformed our house into the inviting home we craved, all in 7 hours. Small examples: Roz immediately saw that our bedroom was serving too many functions (closet, sewing machine, bed, reading nook). She rearranged the purpose of each room in the house, so each room had a purpose (the sewing machine and table left the bedroom and moved to a newly created craft space in another room). Sierra organized the office including papers and rearranged cupboards in the kitchen. Flavia saw that the plants on the counter reduced our work space. She eyed a side table that was used for odds and ends and moved it to a window as a place for the plants. Brilliant! 'Why didn't I think of that?' Flavia rearranged the furniture in the TV room. Again, why didn't we think of that!
Those are just examples - the three of them flew through the house moving, arranging and decluttering (four bags to Goodwill - including beautiful cushions that we don't use and are delighted that someone else can enjoy them).

Daunting Task Accomplished

We wanted to clear up our Mothers estate. It was a daunting task that we figured would take month ls if we attempted it on our own. A three story house loaded with household goods, patterns, fabric and family memorabilia.

Fortunately, we engaged with Simply Home Downsizing. They quickly sorted the house into categories, protected the memorabilia, disposed of obvious waste, donated goods to charity and, arranged for an incredibly successful MaxSold Auction.

All in record time, the house was ready to catch the spring real estate market.

Downsizing from house to condo - not cheap, but accurate quotes - and SO worth it

I reached out to about 5 different downsizing services and Mary was the only person who replied at 7am the next day. We quickly followed up with calls and a visit to make an assessment for a quote; in the meantime other companies hadn't even responded yet. The whole process was super well organized, well explained, and Mary was responsive and available.

The lady who came to actually carry out the organizing and packing, Julie, was also very efficient, friendly, and great at her job. You can tell that they've done this many times before. She also gave me thoughtful opinions on what to keep and what to get rid of, and even found a few documents and items among my donate pile which I was grateful that she saved.

Overall the entire experience made downsizing from a house to a condo so much less stressful. Yes the service was not cheap and you can put stuff into boxes and drive it to a donation centre for free, but the amount of time, energy, and stress that takes is not to be underestimated.
