Chief Wood Finishing

DO NOT HIRE anyone connected to this company or its owner. Required 50% deposit off the top and another 25% after demolition. Demolished kitchen and abandoned the job. Owner would not respond to phone calls texts or emails, although the company was still active and taking on new projects and deposits from others. Deposit was never returned or recovered. Had to start over with another company.

Doesn't respond to warranty claims despite a 2 year warranty. Everything looks good when project Finally, and I do stress finally gets completely after months of delays and when workers not showing up when they're supposed to. Then months later everything slowly falls apart and doesn't answer phones or emails anymore to get warranty repairs, chipping paint, loose hardware, sagging shelves etc. Also never delivered me two shelves to finish a cabinet and it was easier to take care of it myself then try to chase him around anymore.

The owner Talks big talk and promises on initial meeting but the work doesn't hold up.

After receiving a kitchen cabinet refacing quote from Chief Wood Finishing in Feb 2022, my wife and I hired the company, which included a payment of 50% up front. After a little work was done, and claims that materials were in the shop, I paid another 25%. The owner claimed he had a cabinet shop with equipment valued at over $1 million. We later found out that his was likely not true, as the owner was subcontracting all work. The owner was responsive to texts, phone calls, and emails immediately prior to receiving a payment. However after receiving payment, the owner was extremely slow at responding to texts, phone calls, and emails, sometimes taking up to a week or more. The owner made many commitments to have subcontractors do work on certain days, and almost all commitments were not kept. Subcontractors told us that the owner did not pay them, and some were owed a lot of money. We also know of other customers from whom the owner took money, and apparently did not complete the work. The owner said he was going bankrupt, but verbally agreed to pay us back what we paid him less the very little amount of work that was done. A day later his phone and email were out of service. The owner never paid us back, and we had to hire another company to do almost all the work. Although the owner said he was going bankrupt, the Bankruptcy Trustee does not have record of him filing for bankruptcy. Service Alberta said the owner should have had a prepaid contractor license, but he did not.

Poor service and unreliable. They over promised and grossly undelivered. Nice personable people, but the craftsmanship, professionalism, and accountability is severely lacking.

Karl and his crew were incredible. They were able to squeeze our small kitchen rebuild/reface in between bigger jobs and completed our kitchen in two days. I had two other quotes and Chief offered the best product at the best price. Karl was able to navigate some difficulties with our old, poorly built kitchen (nothing was square) and the result is gorgeous. The work site was left pristine. We are already planning our next project with Chief.

From start to finish, Vince, Max and their team were very professional and skillful in the way they handled the idiosyncrasies of our project. We are more than satisfied with the end results.

We found the guys at Chief To be professional and reliable. Our project was completed on a timely basis and within our budget. The cabinet work was meticulous with great attention to detail. They worked hard to resolve the various challenges our kitchen presented. Special mention to Daniel for his great work and persistence.

The whole process was great from sales to finish.

Chief has a very professional team and we chose them because they had the ability to modify our existing cabinets, make new cabinet doors, apply a flawless lacquer finish in their spray shop and also paint our cabinets onsite using the same beautiful lacquer finish.

They also provided us with great drywall and painting services as we requested them to remove this gigantic hood fan cabinet that was over the island. Emilie fixed the ceiling and painted it all seamlessly.

We also requested to have a window filled in and tiled over with a beautiful subway tile and floating shelves that were once again executed very professionally.

Max managed the onsite operation while Vincent ensured that all of the shop work was on par with our high expectations being that they were referred to us from friends who were also very pleased by Chief.

There were some delays with some of the items that prevented them from meeting our target completion date but their quality far outweighed the tardiness so they still deserve the 10 stars!

Overall, we couldn't have picked a better contractor for this job.

The old kitchen was totally taken out. If was redesigned and new kitchen built. Love the new island! Much more room. Love the bench under the window. Tones of storage and function!!

We had our entire kitchen re-faced and the counters/backsplash replaced. We also had a few shelves removed and the moulding redone. Everyone from Chief Wood Finishing was easy to work with and get in contact with when we needed. They recommended great product ranges and ideas for our kitchen. We are in love with it! It is much more modern and clean after the reno. I would say that Chief Wood Finishing went above and beyond as our dishwasher leaked all over the kitchen right near the end of the reno (NOT their fault! Just a freak incident!) and they got there right away and brought in a plumber. We were definitely happy with their service all around. They made the process easy!
