portable dishwasher

What a shame I did not check reviews. Same story as everyone...$80 will be waived...$280. labour fee to look at leaking portable dishwasher that couldn't be fixed without a part..turns out the part is $399.00...so that's $700 to fix a dishwasher...obviously I'm just going to buy a new one...been ripped off and will just have to suck it up. Shaking my head at being so stupid. Feel violated. Call them this morning but of course the manager is "In a meeting"...it's like a movie.

Dishwasher Repair

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I echo some of the comments made by others - I am so sorry not to have read these reviews before I hired Appliance Repairs Guys to fix my dishwasher. Same story as others. The guy came, charged me $280 (plus HST), said the leak was fixed and that the labour was guaranteed for a month. The first time we tried to use it one day later, it didn't work at all. I asked for them to make good on their commitment, and they told me they don't guarantee the labour, and that their technician wrote in his report to them that we would need to replace the tub (which he never mentioned to us). They offered to do this for $684 plus HST! Which means I would have spent over $1000 to fix a dishwasher that is 7 years old. I have been complaining back and forth to them for 9 days now. What a disaster!

Stove

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Wish I had read these reviews before using them. Their website looks very professional but that's where it ends. Same story as others, told me it was $80 diagnostic to look at my oven. When the guy arrived he said we needed the main board replaced. It would cost $280 they we had to pay now and in cash (should have been our first clue). Ended up calling and saying the part was no longer made. But we wouldn't get the $200 back. Spent 3 hours on the phone with someone from "customer service". Waste of time. Please spread the word about this wakeful company.

Dishwasher

BEWARE. They charged us to assess and get parts for our LG dishwasher and never came back or returned out calls. To top it off the part the assessed as the problem was incorrect and I found out from LG that they are not authorized to work on their machines. However when I called they told me they were!!!!

Dryer Repair

Should of done my homework and investigated this company first. Called and they said it would be $80 to come out and give a quote on repair. Of course that $80 turned out to be $280 plus HST to tell me what I already knew is that I needed a new Pulley for my dryer. Of course when he drove up in his car I knew I was in trouble as who carries parts in a car. Long story short put a Band-Aid on it and said if it breaks will replace for only cost of part. Well 5 minutes after he left used dryer and it broke again. Called back and they wanted another $230 plus the part which costs $20. Told them where to go and called someone else and he came and replaced part for $130. Do not use this company as they will take your money and not fix the problem. You've been warned.

Microwave repair

Do not use this company! Called on the thursday before thanksgiving, needed my over the range microwave repaired before the holidays. I was quoted $80 for the service call. Repair man came, used glue to repair the handle. Told me to wait 24hrs for glue to cure! I waited 48 hrs. Still could not open microwave. Called them back on Saturday morning & emailed them. NO response (despite the 24/7 promise on their website). I Paid $180 + tax = $202 for nothing. Microwave was never fixed!!!! Spoke to customer service repeatedly. They keep promising to look into it. But no call back, no offer to repair at no additional cost! It's as good as theft: they have taken the money, but have not repaired the item. They are clearly not interested in making this right! DO NOT USE THEM!!!

Dryer

The appliance repair guys is a college marketing project gone out of control. 90% marketing, 9% repair, 1% customer service. I made the unfortunate mistake of trying a non family run company and decided on these guys because their website included a make that wasn't listed on the other companies in the area. TARG's (The appliance repair guys), site uses fancy stock images, shows many phone numbers depending on location and of course fake reviews. My first sign of suspicion was when I phoned in and was answered right away and then put on hold for 45 seconds. Almost the perfect amount of time to give the impression that I am not the only customer but not long enough to frustrate me. I wouldn't be surprised if I were just put on hold on purpose for an image of business is good. I also heard CBC news playing in the background indicating she was most likely working from home. During the phone conversation I was informed the initial fee would be $80 and would be taken off the labor cost if I agree to have the work performed.

The repairman arrived, had a look for 1 minute and said the base labor rate is $280 and will do his best to fix it without additional parts. This is borderline blackmail. My wife agreed to the work as he was already there and there would be resolution.

The good news is that the issue was repaired (I still haven't had a chance to confirm but I am going to assume it is). I would provide a higher rating based on the fact that the job was performed but I simply cannot based on the ethical practice of this company.

I will definitely not use them again and I feel bad that I should have known better. I am sure they use SEO (search engine optimization) to ensure they are high up on the search engine results. Again mostly marketing fluff. I wouldn't be surprised if I got a pop up from them when I disable my pop up blocker. Also the positive reviews on here smell and laughable.

Next time Ill return to the local family run business.

Stove repair

I had a repair technician come out to fix the switch on my stove. The technician told me he would clean my stove and that may fix the issue. He would wave the $80 initial visit fee. My cost would be $280 + parts. He was unable to fix it and told me he would call with the price for the part and assured me the $280 would cover all the labour charges. Now I have been quoted over $500 for a new switch which includes an installation charge of $180. I've called the manufacturer and the cost on e part is just over $200. I spoke to the company and explained what i was told by the technician but i guess labour and installation are two different things. After reading the reviews on this site I am not going ahead with this repair. Never use this company they are misleading and dishonest. On their labour repair quote they claim they can fix 80% of appliances without parts. I am normally very diligent about checking companies on Home Stars before I call in a service person. I will never make the mistake again of looking at a websites 4 star rating and taking it at face value.

Refridgerator repair

I have a GE Monogram built in fridge about 10 years old, the freezer wasn't cold enough and the icemaker wasn't working. I called the Appliance Repair Guys (I wish I knew about Homestars earlier) and they quoted me $80 for the service call. The technician came out a few days later and then charged us an additional $200 for the labour involved in a "diagnostics" that took about 20 minutes. We had to sign a "labour quote approval" or the guy wasn't going to do anything and this is non-refundable. He said we needed a new condenser fan but had to get the part to come back (separate charge). I called their customer service line (twice) to complain about what I considered to be sharp business practices. The technician called back to say that they couldn't find the part required because the fridge was too old and there were no spare parts available any more. I found the part on line for delivery the next day. I called the manager to complain again and was told that the technician had written down the wrong model number but in a later call they went back to saying that there were no parts available. My last call to them was not returned. End result - I am out $316 and the repair was not done. I would never ever use this company and would advise anyone else to stay away from them. I got another service provider, explained the problem on the phone, got a technician that day and the cost of the full repair (parts and labour) was $300, no other service or diagnostic charges.
