Major renovation

Partex handled our major renovation in a very professional manner. Their presentation, contract and transparent process was very distinct from other builders.

Andrews attention to detail and communication skills were excellent during the entire project.

We would work with him again and likely will

Bathroom/Laundry/Storage Back Extension

When our original contractor of two years came down with a physical ailment that prevented him from starting our modest extension at the back of our house, he referred us to Andrew and Partex Design Build as our new contractor. Not having had experiences with Andrew before, we were naturally uneasy about hiring someone that we had no previous personal or professional dealings with. Our worries were unfounded.
Taking our pre-existing designs, Andrew was able to seamlessly shoehorn into the job and provide quick turnaround time on constructing a detailed breakdown for the project within our budget.

Once approved, site construction began quickly and efficiently, with Partex Design Build negotiating the various material sourcing/pricing and subcontracted trades with professionalism and aplomb. Build milestones were hit, and the budget generally stayed within each of these groupings. Much of the process for first time clients is a bit terrifying but Andrew was good at calming those worries and linearly explaining (and re-explaining) all the steps in an easily digestible fashion.

When staffing or build complications arose, Andrew was able to pivot, offer a variety of alternatives, and ultimately deal with the problems while still staying within the constraints of our budget and needs. The build did extend beyond the initial completion date, mostly due to scheduling issues with trades as well as the December holidays, throughout it, Andrew was able to stay positive and help us see the end of the finish line.

Andrew is not afraid to voice his opinion, but he also listens to the clients needs, and is willing to come up with a compromise that is mutually beneficial for everyone.

If the client is fine with it, Andrew will also bring his dog, Seamus, to sites. Seamus is so charming and delightful that he actually feels like more like a therapy dog for anxious clients.

In the end, we are extremely pleased with the addition, and find the room warm and inviting to spend time in, even if the original intent was mostly functional in nature. But beware if using Partex Design Build, be sure to have plenty of dark chocolate and red wine on hand!

Terrible Experience – don’t look past the red flags

We had a terrible experience with Partex Design.
Issues with the project include:
Did not receive drawings
HVAC vent going into the second floor office/laundry room was cut off for some reason
Another vent was moved, but not sealed and two holes were poked into the pipe to create air flow
His workers broke our fence and porch railing. I had to build a new railing myself
Water heater was not installed correctly
New Shower was not level
Staining not done correctly
Toilet not installed correctly
Washer/dryer not installed correctly
Bathroom vanity not installed correctly
Too many more to list
We would not recommend hiring Partex Design.

Rear Addition Project

My wife and I hired Partex Design Build Ltd. to design and build our two story rear addition in downtown Toronto.

Partex performed very well at steering us between the rocks of design, budgeting, zoning variances at Committee Of Adjustment, engineering, permitting, kitchen design, bath design and all of the actual construction.

We had a few challenges along the way as the city process had slowed quite a bit due to covid and staff working from home (slow and disorganized), but again, Partex led us through the changing processes very well, new to all of us. Costs were changing every week (Covid related), but Partex kept us informed in advance in order for us to make well informed decisions, as the various increases and challenges became apparent. Partex managed to save most of our existing master bath, plus harvesting the old tile to match the existing tile, enabling us to save $40k by not replacing the entire master bath. We are very happy with the new kitchen, lighting layout and color consulting. The final result is well thought-out and works well together as a coordinated interior design.

In short, they took very good care of us from beginning to end.

We heartily recommend them to you.

Lobby, kitchen, powder room and main floor Reno

Partex Design Build Ltd. and Andrew were hired by us to completely redesign and rebuild our main floor including our kitchen, dining room, powder room, and to transform our front entrance including a new expanded space for a hallway closet.

We are delighted with the result, right down to the finest details. Renos can be stressful but Andrew was excellent to work with. He was steady and clear about explaining our various options. He was also very good at giving us cost feedback at each step of the design phase, so we knew what to expect. His sense of humour helped manage the stressors that inevitably come along with such a sizeable home renovation.

Our front entrance transformation has been the most impactful for me. Andrews hallway closet solution was to turn it sideways and push it slightly into the garage, which increased the closet from 2.5 to 7.5 wide, plus give us another 18 of hallway width. It completely works and it sets the stage and great impression for the rest of the house.

The most challenging part of the project was removing the structural wall between the kitchen and dining room, allowing the light to flow all through the first floor (the most important thing for me). The wall was full of electrical, heating, plumbing lines etc. but somehow he sorted it all out in a very neat fashion. We especially appreciated the attention to detail which resulted in a warm expansive French Country Kitchen with a beautiful glazed finish. Andrew paid great attention to the lighting design throughout which has turned out to be very functional and attractive.

Lastly because its worth noting, the finer details and finishing touches matter so much in renovations. We appreciated the attention to the paint finish, the trim and door installations and how professionally the renovation was completed. It was also done on schedule and on budget even though we made a few changes along the way. Keep in mind I had to be flexible too because not everything I wanted fit our budget. So theres give and take needed on both sides to make it all smooth.

So we would recommend Andrew and Partex Design Build Ltd. without hesitation to anyone desiring excellent quality and knowledge of design. You can trust them and have confidence they will be good guardians of your home through the transformation of

Repair / Rebuilt Side Porch / Decking

Partex Design Build Ltd. and Andrew were engaged by us to work on several projects to our Victorian building in downtown Toronto.

The first project was to fix some badly crumbling brick faced stairs. Andrew came up with some great ideas and we ended up using ¾ thick marble to cover the steps and exposed porch. The second project, a few months later, was to rebuild and paint our Victorian porch and stairs and security gates below, as well as paint all of the exterior wood for our portion of the building, plus the iron fence and gates. Again, Partex delivered. The third project was to treat our ageing steel fire escape. Partex found a terrific rust converter, that actually converts rust to a paintable, inert material. Then painted the entire steel structure with a reliable exterior anti rust paint.

We are very pleased with all of the excellent services and problem solving Partex has provided. Each time we engaged them, they came through. We will work with them again.

small basement and small kitchen

The project was to renovate a small bungalows basement and the small kitchen upstairs. This contractor's ideas were decent however the execution of project was not to our satisfaction.

Timelines were simply not close to being met. The contract states that the renovation would take approx 3 months from commencement yet it took 11 1/2 months. At this time the City Inspector issued an Order to Comply to the Contractor to remove the drywall and allow them to inspect the structural work. Conflict ensued when contractor failed to comply, at this point we ended our relationship with Par-Tek.

The photos show what Par-tek believes is a suitable radiator installation (it isn't for more than the obvious cosmetic reasons) and how the pex pipe drill holes were improperly placed (far too close, and not centered on joist). It wasn't even the proper type of pex pipe for a heating system.

2024 update. When I first posted my review the contractor tried unsuccessfully to have it removed by being untruthful to Homestars. You can see in the contractors response that pettiness is the norm. Ex. "clients can't hold a screwdriver." Isn't that why people hire contractors? The issues we faced were are all created by this contractor. His response simply isn't true. Shame on him.

Company Response

Sorry to say, this client was particularly challenging to work with.
The goal posts kept moving, for the entire project.
Constantly changing priorities and instructions, complemented by less-then-brilliant work by clients trades.
Client could not turn a screw diver. Literally.
We had great difficulty explaining the simplest of work scopes.
He could not appreciate the consequences of their changing demands on our budget and time.

A very difficult project.
I had wished for a much better result for both parties.
