Excellent Customer Service

I was bit hesitant to hire DJL based upon previous reviews. However, I gambled as the price quoted was very reasonable.
I am very happy with my decision. It's too early to judge the quality of MDF cabinets but I am extremely pleased and satisfied with the services received from Andy at DJL kitchen. He under committed and over delivered. I find him to be very responsive and customer service oriented which is a diminishing trait these days. He replied to my concerns / questions even on weekend and late evenings when I least expected.
What else that he even took good care after we made the full payment. Not for once I felt that we were left on our own. Very patiently dealt with regular changes and accommodated our requests.
I have a peace of mind knowing that Andy will respond immediately if anything falls apart.
He promised us a free sink and to my surprise it was one of the expensive ones which shows that he did not try to cut corners.
Lets now see how long out new kitchen last.

Rushed job, poor quality

The job was done so fast that they cut corners and quality is severely compromised. If you’ve had a job done by them, inspect their work thoroughly - below the upper cabinets and the base trim of the lower cabinets. There is a gap almost 3 inches deep between my lowest drawer and the base trim. The handles on the double doors are not symmetrical; there are holes on the inside that show they screwed up on the initial holes they made for one of the cabinet doors so they had to move that one over. At least half of the shelves don’t sit flush on the pegs because the holes on either side of the cabinets don’t line up. They installed them wrong sink and in the process of removing it to install the proper one, they damaged my quartz countertop. They quoted to put new drywall on my ceiling but after I pulled off the painters tape, a piece of the ceiling came off. The floor was not levelled properly and I got cracks in 3 of the tiles.

Small bathroom cabinet

I needed a small 40” bathroom cabinet for my kids’ bathroom. Andy oversaw our project, and I cannot find any positive moment along the way.
A drawing (supposed to show design and dimensions) made by him was hardly readable. Not once I pointed at details different from what we agreed at the very beginning.
After I realized the situation is that bad, I asked for a decent drawing with correct dimensions, but never got one. Then I made a drawing myself and asked Andy to confirm it, but never got a confirmation.
Last time I called him (after he didn’t reply to my messages and I was worried the cabinet won’t be done correctly), he spoke to me in a very rude manner: "What, you have so much time to message and call, I'm working, have no time for this!" Following such disrespect and negligence, my husband called him and asked to cancel the order, while it had been not started yet. But Andy told he will do the cabinet in the best way.
Before we came to pick up the cabinet, I thought we were supposed to just load it on our car, pay and leave. In the reality we waited 1,5 hours for:
1. Drilling holes for handles
2. Fixing deep scratches inside (they put some purple substance and I never checked whether they masked it with white coating later)
3. Cutting ½” from a kick panel to fit a space it was going into (before I twice corrected it’s dimensions and explicitly asked not to make it bigger!)
4. Completely redoing the same kick panel as it was shorter than we agreed (I also twice spoke with Andy about that and showed him this design in their showroom)
5. Fixing cabinet wall, which was torn up by one of four pins with nails , as a result of pulling/pushing the cabinet to exit (they told we will not see it, then nailed a piece of board there) – see the photo attached
6. Same thing happened later to another side of the same wall torn up by another pin when they kept pulling! – see the photo attached
7. I found a crack in a corner of the cabinet’s bottom part.
We were willing to swallow long waiting, scratches, redoing parts, even the first damage following their negligence. But somewhere one must draw a line, right?
Finally we got exhausted, late, and totally disappointed by quality of their workmanship. The crack was the last straw. We told we cannot accept this and asked for returning a deposit. After that Andy told us to come tomorrow and vanished.
As a result of dealing with DJL Kitchens, we lost $200 deposit, 3 additional weeks without vanity in kids’ washroom and got an extremely negative experience. I told Andy that if he returns deposit, we forget this nightmare without writing a review, but obviously $200 is more valuable than a reputation.

Cabinet and counter top

I was referred by my mom, my friend also used them for cabinet and countertop and her experience was ok.
Maybe I was unlucky as they installed the wrong counter top to begin with, they did replace it after.
The cabinet door color was off, it took them numerous try to get all doors matching. Though there are still lots of defects but we got tired of having them fix it.
The sales rep was nice but the craftmanship was bad.
They weren't the cheapest quote we got so we were expecting decent craftmanship.

Best team in the business!!

I have worked with Chris and the team of J & Hao Home Design and Build Ltd on a smaller project 6 years ago, and I was so impressed that I couldn’t wait to find a way to work with Chris and his team again.

Fast forward to a year ago when we were buying our new home, to say it was a diamond in the rough was an understatement but I could see the potential of what it could be. Immediately, I called Chris and his team and explained I had a bigger project I was hoping to work with him on. In the past when it came to projects and quotes I was faced with contractors who would disappear, or just simply told my project would take longer than I was willing to wait / or more than I had budgeted for; that is what makes Chris and his team so exceptional: they show up when they say they will, the project falls within the timeline how Chris advises and they work with you every step of the way. No matter the challenge that may come up, Chris and his team handle it professionally and in a reliable way that allows the challenge to be resolved correctly and for the long term.

Chris is very fair and honest with the quote and scope of work needed to do the job right. He gave me options of what I was looking for and advised on construction tips to increase the longevity of the project and in some cases save money so I could reallocate back to the project.

I am always AMAZED by J & Hao Home Design and Build Ltd’s work ethic, not only are they there when they said they would be, but the team worked about 8 hours a day 6 days a week until the job was done! Doing all the heavy lifting to get the job done ( every day that I came home I was blown away by how much the team accomplished) they truly do not make people with the work ethic that Chris and his team have anymore, let alone with their attention to detail and skillset.

Chris and I ironed out pricing and the schedule of work before he began and he stayed on budget, and on time, there were no surprise/hidden costs or delays that came up which my husband and I were beyond impressed with. From each project we found ourselves finding new ways to work with Chris and his team because of how much we trusted them on the job; knowing the job we asked for would not only get done correctly, but would always be beyond our expectations ( and still on budget!!) Chris did every project and job spectacularly and went above and beyond in the details. Each day as we approached one project ending, I would quickly find another project to be done because Chris was just that good.

I truly look forward to the next time we get to work together because he is fantastic; one of the biggest challenges I find with working with anyone is their quality of work, and who they are as individuals, well in Chris’s and J & Hao Home Design and Build Ltd’s case you do not have to worry: they are honest, reliable, trustworthy, professional, kind, knowledgable and exceptionally talented. ANY project you may have inside the house or outside the house, I strongly recommend Chris and J & Hao Home Design and Build Ltd and have already recommended Chris to several friends and neighbours and will do so for many years to come. Thank you for my beautiful house that you made a home, that is not only better than ever, but a private escape in the city thanks to Chris and the J & Hao Home Design and Build Ltd team.

Custom kitchen install

From start to finish Chris Zhang was so helpful and easy to work with. He went out of his way to meet with us and finalize plans. The end result was a beautiful kitchen that everyone who comes over gushes about. I can't say enough good and king words about our experience with DJL Kitchens and Chris Zhang. Amazing work! If anyone wants further info about our experience don't hesitate to PM me.

best value, best quality, best service

We did a complete kitchen renovation this year, after visited about half dozen kitchen cabinets shops, we decided to use DJL to custom build our kitchen cabinets. Now we are so glad that we chose Andy and DJL. Andy provided excellent professional design and services using his knowledge, experience and the most importantly - customer first mindset. The quote was clear and well structured, he explained his design in detail to make sure we clearly understand it before we placed the order and paid the deposit. The cabinets were delivered even a bit early that was very helpful to shorten construction days. Even when we realized that we made a mistake in requirements (Andy did strongly recommend but we didn't take his advice) and asked him to change the cabinet design 2 days before his delivery date. He still delivered it and did not charge us any extra cost! I will recommend Andy and DJL for anyone who are looking for high quality and high value kitchen cabinets with excellent customer services.

Kitchen reno

Measured incorrectly, effected design; sent installers who could not speak/understand English so could not communicate with me; inferior products, sent shelves and doors back several times; 2 years later starting to crack. Would never recommend this company.

Main floor kitchen and second suite basement kitchen

I was referred by another real estate investor pal. They did a great job. From design consultation to conceptual to delivery and installation they were always available and did a great job. Price was very competitive all things considered (measure, design, consultation, delivery, installation). Other options I considered were Ikea and Home Depot.

Low price, but low quality. Missing details and QC. You will need to spend a lot of time babysitting.

You get what you pay for, and they're often the cheapest - I'll give them credit for that.

If you don't value time at all, this company is a great option.

Every, single corner will be cut to try to save a negligible amount of cost. If you are a perfectionist or concerned about details at all, you will be frustrated.

Individually, the staff and contractors are actually pretty good and friendly. Taken as a whole, the company's internal communication is just so terrible that the sum is less than its parts. One contractor will come one day, and then a completely different person will be asked to finish off the job that wasn't completed because someone forgot to include tools or materials. Of course, by the time the next person comes, he has no clue of what was already done, and in turn, probably also forgot some needed tools.
