I found Jeff online using google. I then hired him do concrete slabs for my front entrance. Dealing with Jeff was difficult from the beginning. He was obnoxious, rude, confrontational and not in agreement with anything,except what he wanted. I for some reason agreed and i regret it completely. He showed up late, the stairs were uneven, there was water pooling and they are cracking. He has not answered any phone calls or texts for the repairs. He has wither gone bankrupt or is screwing someone else over. Stay far away from this egotistical man who clearly should not be a contractor. Jeff if you see this, return my calls. I will be seeking legal action.

Jeff was hired to prepare the foundation for a garage addition. For context, I enjoy renovations and have done a fair bit in the past. But concrete formwork is unique and challenging as this stuff weighs approximately 4,000 lbs a cubic yard. Get it wrong and you can be in a heap of trouble. In total, just under 40,000 lbs of concrete was poured with first-class professionalism. The project was completed on-time and on-budget, with not a hint of stress. Amazingly, Jeff completed the project totally on his own - an indication of this work-ethic, knowledge and skill. A real pro. Well done, Jeff!

We first hired Jeff Hayes Contracting to do a complete renovation of the first floor of our 1960’s bungalow (completed June 2016), and then about year later we hired him again to renovate the basement (completed July 2017).
We first met Jeff at the Ottawa home show in 2015 when we were in our planning stages of the renovation. Over the next year he took the time to discuss what our plans were and he provided advice and direction on how we might move forward. We then worked with an architect to develop the design and working drawings and then submitted these to various contractors for quotations; Jeff Hayes Contracting Ltd. won the contract. The main floor and basement of the house was totally gutted, including the replacement of all electrical and plumbing. The renovation included the addition of a new entrance (room) to the house, the relocation of the main floor bathroom, the amalgamation of 3 bedrooms into 1 bedroom, new kitchen, relocation & upgrade to a 3-piece bathroom in the basement, installation of new windows & patio doors. We had existing hardwood on the main floor which we wanted to keep, and the new hardwood was incorporated seamlessly with the existing flooring.
Jeff and his crew were great to work with and when there were issues with differences between the working drawings and the actual building, Jeff provided suggestions to rectify the situation. His quotation was accurate, without any hidden costs
A year later we went through the request for pricing process for the basement, and Jeff once again won the work. The basement renovation included a laundry room, 2 new bedrooms, and an entertainment room.
We are very pleased with the overall results of the work that Jeff has done.

6 months ago we invited Jeff Hayes to quote us on finishing our 2000 sq ft. basement. Up to that point, half a dozen contractors had been in but they all gave us the polished sales pitch with huge price tags. Jeff, on the other hand, was not like the others. He is not just the general contractor, but also gets his hands dirty on the job. He was friendly and confident; he knew exactly the design look we wanted and gave us a very reasonable quote. He was worth the 6 month wait in order to have EXACTLY the look and quality we wanted.
Jeff walked us through the initial steps of the renovation and handled any changes we threw at him without hesitation. His crew of 4 showed up on time and worked hard for weeks to accomplish the project. Communication flowed freely between us; we were constantly informed of what work took place that day and what was to come. The progress billing was clear for us to follow and we always knew we were paying for work/supplies that had been done, not pending.
Our basement vision quickly took shape: 'reclaimed, warm and natural". Jeff literally made the timber beams which perfectly compliment the natural stone, custom firewood niche, aged bronze fixtures and smoke-toned custom bar. In the end, we are left with an amazing lower living space that our family will enjoy for decades. Jeff, Adam: thank you for building our dream basement! Jeff Hayes Contracting and his team did an excellent job building our extension - garage and Master Bedroom with ensuite, walk in closet and balcony. Jeff was on time and on budget and tried hard to make sure we were satisfied. There were a few issues that came up along the way but he worked to get them resolved to our satisfaction. Jeff is genuine and committed to the work he does. We would recommend him to others.

It was worth the wait for Jeff Hayes Contracting to come and do our basement. We met Jeff at an Ottawa Home Show about 2 years ago and we signed the contract last spring and as Jeff is in high demand, we were willing to wait. His company is outstanding and Jeff has great ideas on how to maximize your space while keeping costs down. For example, we wanted to paint the basement ourselves so that we would also contribute as part of the team :) We loved his vision of the design he recommended. He was very flexible by ensuring client expectations were met throughout the whole project. Jeff has a great personality and we got along great and that is very important to us and we knew that we've chosen the right person. His team was also good spirited and were clean, they protected our stairs and hallway, they came on time and were very polite and respectful. During the project Jeff was approachable with any questions or concerns that we had. The project finished earlier than the estimated time of completion. We are very pleased of the results and highly recommend Jeff and his team.

This project may have been considered a disaster. I was looking at reconstructing an addition on my duplex. There were two major issues. First, the engineer that Jeff contracted wasn't very good. He was clearly lazy and did not draw plans adequately enough for obtaining permits in a timely manner. The project ended up being delayed, but Jeff did keep me in the loop with everything, including the firing of the engineer.
After we finally received the permit, everything was going really well until the City inspector came by and ordered the removal of the brick from the rest of the building. Jeff wanted to cut the contract short and would have left me in a really bad scenario. I did manage to convince Jeff to do the rest of the job, and he was able to provide some recommendations on companies to do the brick removal and a new deck. It was a very stressful project, but the job did get completed to my satisfaction. I can say that Jeff does do quality work, but we both learned a lot by doing this project.

Jeff Hayes Contracting is my go-to firm for work on my home. I hired this company for the third time this summer since buying this house two years ago. This time for bathrooms. Previously I had hired him to add a new subfloor to eliminate a step-down living room space and install new hardwood flooring throughout the house. On his second visit he was hired to remove a skylight and refinish the interior ceiling and exterior roof.

There were two bathroom projects. The main bathroom was completely gutted (except for tub) and rebuilt. In the en suite I had a shower custom built to replace a pre-fab. I am ecstatically happy with both rooms. The design and workmanship exceeded all expectations.

Jeff's team is fastidious, friendly and thoughtful. I enjoyed having them in my home during the demolition and reconstruction.

My only hesitation in referring Jeff is that he may become too busy to take on a fourth project in my home!

I feel very fortunate to have found Jeff Hayes for my first ever renovation project. I had been saving for a few years in order to finish my basement. I read many reviews on Homestars and called three different contracting companies. All three companies gave me decent quotes but what made me choose Jeff was the fact that Jeff is the one who showed up to do the quote; he arrived in his work truck with his work clothes. He didn’t have any fancy brochures or an office, but what he does have is expertise, experience and the most incredible work ethic I have ever seen. Jeff listened to me and understood my reno needs. He offered suggestions and gave me several options on how to do things. He then told me things about my house that I did not know (where the staircase used to be; how the pipes for the washer were on an external wall…etc). Jeff wrote up a quote with options built in for some “sweat equity” on my part if I wished. All along the way, Jeff kept me informed and moreover, he listened to all of my questions and always had time to discuss things with me. Jeff gave me a time line for the project and he finished the job almost to the day and he even credited me for some items where we underspent. Without any hesitation, I recommend Jeff Hayes; in fact, I have already done so to my colleagues and friends. Not once during this whole process did I ever worry or have any doubts. We were extremely happy with the service that Jeff and his team provided us before/during/after our basement renovation! Jeff is an easy-going and flexible contractor who provides excellent workmanship and customer service. He was always quick to respond to emails/texts and was happy to work with us when we had any questions or concerns. He completed the job on-time and within our budget. Jeff and his team-members (Marco, Adam and Anthony) are great at what they do and we always had confidence in a job well-done! They maintained a wonderfully clean work-space which was great for us with two small children. They were here on-time every day and were transparent about what was being done and when.
In addition to the high-level work ethic, Jeff and his crew are great to be around! They have a fantastic sense of humour and work really well together. They have a great working-relationship with all of their sub-contractors and it made for a very pleasant renovation experience! I am on maternity leave and I always felt comfortable being around the house during the day and appreciated how they got know my family - our 4 year old daughter loved the team so much, she didn't want them to leave!
We are beyond happy with our newly finished basement and wouldn't hesitate to use Jeff for any future projects or recommend him to our friends/family!
