I booked an appointment 1 day in advance for a service call on my fridge between 9 & 11:00 a.m for the following day.. I called them at 10 a.m. the next day to reconfirm my appointment and see what time the service tech would arrive. They said he would be there by 11:30 a.m. He finally showed up at 1 p.m. The tech first said my fridge freezer was working normal. I told him the freezer temp was only -8 celcius, then he made a phone call and told me I needed a new compressor for $550. I said I didn't want to pay that for an 9 yr old fridge. Then his boss got me on the phone and wanted to do a cleaning of the fridge system ( a flush and replace the freon) for $300. Since the tech arrived he still had not removed the cover on the back of my fridge to check for dust in the cooling fins or if the fan was running.
At the end of the service call he had to call his office to see how to make out a bill. By this time I realized I had made a big mistake in selection a service company.
I have since called another authorized GE service company and I will get a new compressor under the GE warranty with only $250 labour to install.
I would never call quick fix again
