Convert powder room to shower room

The journeyman carpenter who owns Journeyman Carpentry came recommended to us by a friend who is an interior designer. His estimates, work, communication, team and sub-contractors were all outstanding. Our tricky project was converting a main floor powder room into a shower room, with the sink moved just outside the powder room. This involved sloping the floor, adding a wall-mount toilet, moving ducts, wiring, plumbing, and a wall, as well as re-designing the doorway. A lot of tile work was also performed. We were very happy with the process and the result. We are keen to have this master carpenter and his team back soon for more projects.

Kitchen renovation

My renovation occurred during the pandemic. I cannot speak to the timeline because the situation did not allow a normal process. I want to give Journeyman Carpentry credit for navigating the difficulties that situation created. What I appreciated most was the kitchen had some unique challenges and Dan not only took the time to understand what I was trying to achieve but also was able to provide alternatives and suggestions that really improved the reno.

Four season Sun room, garage, roof, chimney, siding on the bungalow, landscaping, patio, new stairs.

I consider myself lucky to have been recommended Daniel and Doug Burt. Whilst it is the contractors job to make things run smoothly, sometimes delays are out of their control. They happen but Daniel always had a backup plan. My project was big and required many people, permits, inspections, architects, roofers, landscapers, electric and heating experts, heavy machinery-the list is endless. This is where Daniel is a pro. He has a TEAM. Trusted, dependable and do a great job. They have all worked together for several years and very good at what they do. If there is a problem, Daniel is seasoned and can solve whatever comes his way. His father Doug is a master at what he does and I felt privileged to have him working on my four season room along with many other jobs that he did during the four months that they were here. He is a problem solver as is Daniel. All the material used were excellent. I had a choice of course but took their advice as to what would work best. They are both very knowledgeable and communicate clearly. As I sit now in my warm Sun Room with the sun shining in, I am so grateful I had you create this most beautiful space. Thank you Daniel and Doug. All the best in 2020. Judy Beardall

Finishing the basement

Turned an unfinished basement into: rec room, bedroom, bathroom with shower, laundry room, furnace room, and unfinished storage.

Dan and team were very organized and clean, and friendly. After the job was done, by son missed having them around =). Dan was accommodating to our needs and changes as the project evolved. After the start we came up with some modifications to the layout and Dan adjusted without missing a beat. Very turn-key service where only some small decisions were needed, otherwise Dan drove the solution to problems given our vision. Paperwork, communication, payment all handled efficiently and conveniently. Every weekend, laundry was reinstalled for our use, and the basement was cleaned so the job site was always orderly.

Fully insulated exterior walls
Subfloor with vinyl flooring
Relocated several plumbing runs that involved going under the concrete
Relocated washer/dryer
Sound proofed areas with solid doors (resilient channel ceiling, 2x drywall walls, sound-proofed duct work), weather stripping for sound isolation.
Bathroom with tile shower
Network cables, in-wall cable channels
Rounded drywall edges and corners
Kid-strong base boards

Excellent Main Floor Renovation and New Kitchen

Dan and his team at Journeyman Carpentry recently completed a large renovation of our main level that included a small addition; removal of a load-bearing wall; relocation of electrical, plumbing and HVAC; a new kitchen in the newly opened up space; and new floors throughout. Dan was involved from the very early design concept stage, obtained the building permit (which included an appearance at the Committee of Adjustments to get several minor variances), and saw the project through to completion. He took the time to understand what our needs and preferences were so that he could provide solid advice on a whole range of topics including design and materials. Along the way, he was a very clear communicator and was always available to answer my myriad of questions by phone, email or text, with patience, honesty and good humour. A project of this magnitude always involves some surprises along the way, but he kept me informed at all times, always had a range of options to solve the various problems and made good recommendations. We appreciated the high quality of his work as well as that of his crew, Doug and Ivan, and the subtrades with which he works. The project came in almost on time and almost on budget which was a minor miracle considering the breadth and quality of the work done, and we were kept informed of time and budget issues throughout the project so there were plenty of opportunities to course correct if we wanted to remain under budget. Best of all, the final outcome far exceeded our expectations. We wouldn't hesitate to hire Journeyman Carpentry again and would highly recommend this company.

Pocket door repair

We have a pocket door that had fallen off its rail. This door has been installed when the wall was redone and the hardware holding the door is inaccessible. It has a very nice frame typical of older home. Dan managed to remove the frame, fix the door and replace as if nothing had ever happened. Dan is very talented and courteous.

Basement Renovation

We had decided to turn a portion of our basement into a useable space. After reviewing several bids, we decided on Journymen Carpentry because of there straight forward approach and open approach to our project. Dan and his team worked with us to design a space that covered our needs, while balancing costs to stay within our budget.
Dan took care of all the design drawings, approvals, and permits required by City Hall.
The work site was kept very tidy, with minimal disruption to our home. The project itself progressed very quickly, but with an excellent attention to detail. The standard of work was first rate. Dan and his team definitely take a real sense of pride in their craftsmanship.
Dan and the team at Journymen Carpentry have our highest recommendation.

Front Deck

Dan and the Journeyman Carpentry team did an excellent job rebuilding and modernizing our second story front deck. The project gave the front of our house a much needed makeover, and brings so much more light into our living room. Dan was able to work with whatever challenges our house presented to execute our vision, and made some great design suggestions that really enhanced the finished product. The team also did an excellent job cleaning up at the end of each day, so that we didn't have to continually navigate a construction site for the duration of the project. We would definitely hire Journeyman Carpentry again.
