Contracted Your Reno Guys to renovate our basement bathroom, approximately 10x7, with new drywall, tile floor, new shower with tile, and vanity and included demoing old.
When I met John, the owner, he presented himself in a professional manner and how he charged for unforeseen issues once demolition was done. His approach seemed fair and reasonable.
Job was started June 21st and as not completed until July 22nd, a month to do !!
There were days when no one would show up when we were told they would. Other times we were left in the dark about schedule and were never contacted. One day we waited all day for plumber to show who was supposed to come in the morning showed up around 4 and completed what he was to do, put in toilet flange, in about 10 minutes. He didn't even have to shut off his truck.
When we contacted John about this issue, we said we didn't care that no work was done on certain days but just let us know so we didn't sit around all day waiting and because we have pets we needed to secure certain areas of the house.
John was somewhat indignant with his response and complained because we didn't give him keys so his crew could come and go.
We originally gave him garage code which gave him access to the house.
Other issues relate to the work performed.
After the floor as tiled I called the office to ask if they had sealed the grout because there still seemed to be a grout haze on the floor.
The response I got was that to remove the haze was an extra cost but it was an easy enough job to do yourself. It seems to me that this is just part of the tiling process. It also meant they hadn't done the shower tiles either but nobody said anything and sure enough there was still a haze on them. I subsequently did the job.
When the job was supposedly completed when the plumber installed the fixtures for shower and said he had tested everything and left I went to the office and made final payment as requested.
Next day I took my first shower. I got either scalding hot water or freezing cold. The shower was unusable. I called the office immediately and they said plumber would be over soon to look into it. He arrived about 4 hours later. He attempted to fix it but couldn't and suggested it was a faulty cartridge causing the problem. He contacted supplier to get new one. The following Thursday he contacted me to say he had ne cartridge and would be by Friday morning to install it. I waited until almost 11 but no show so called office. Got a voice message of unable to take call leave message which I did. Waited about half hour no reply so called again got same recording. Called again 2 minutes later from different number and call answered. Said they would try to get hold of plumber. They called back about half hour later to say they couldn't reach him and could we reschedule. I said no.
About 2 pm plumber showed up. Installed new cartridge still not working. Long story short turns out hot and cold plumbing was backwords and he hadn't verified that when job was started. Fortunately other side of wall is paneled so he was able to remove panel and fix by putting flex tubing in. Shower worked.
I have since had to apply silicone along shower base and glass shower frame as I noticed water on floor and discolouration of moulding from water leaking out in 2 places after showering. In one area there was about 1/4 inch gap between shower base and glass which tells me floor is not level despite my paying $500 for leveling cement applied to basement floor as an added cost.
Also the one sliding shower door does not stay in it's track because the base is not level.
Also the counter top was not affixed to the vanity base, it was just laid on top, so I have had to do this.
The final thing I found disappointing with this reno is that no time during this process did John ever contact us or drop by to see how things were going or has there been any followup since completion.
Suffice to say I will not be using this company again to complete our basement makeover and would not recommend them to others.
