Your Reno Guys

We hired Your Reno Guys in late 2014 to build a custom shower and tile our master bathroom. The work didn’t take too long to finish, though there were some unexpected delays with the tilers.

We paid for high-end work and materials, but the final product had some significant aesthetic and functional defects that were never fixed. The shower was never tested and had a depression that didn’t drain properly. The grout on the rest of the bathroom floor was poorly applied and changed from a brown to white colour.

During the project and after, there were several confrontational situations with the owner, John G., that we felt were unnecessary. Discussions about project scope and choices of materials were very heated and we were often yelled at. He refused to answer questions about significant increases to the bill and did not acknowledge the repairs that were needed. He blamed us for the defects without coming to see them. He threatened to sue us and to release our personal information to other contractors.

We pursued compensation in small claims court and were successful proving the shower defect, but it was a very costly process. The statements of costs showed that the owner spent more than $15,000 to fight against a defect that he claimed would cost only $1,000 to fix. Overall, our experience was very negative and will keep us away from this company and its owner in future.
