A relative in Port Colborne has had a stretch of medical bad luck. Having mobility issues, calls were made to people who install stairlifts. Mike King of Access Renovations was called and he promised a two year warranty, and said he was local and provide immediate repair service. Emergency repair service, if required, was assured to be provided by Access Renovations. One of your main selling points was that he was a local company based in Welland and that should there be a problem, he would be on hand for immediate repairs.
Less than 24 hours after installing the purchased stair lift, it stopped working. Multiple calls were made to the business number 9058928020 and to the emergency cell number 9056518474 to inform him of problems with the stair lift but he did not respond, nor did he return any of the messages left. It was not until 12:30pm on Monday, June 22 - a full 32 hours after the initial attempt to contact - that he replied to our messages.
The hardship to the woman was extreme. Without a working stair lift, she was unable to remain in her home. She had to be transferred to temporary health care accommodations elsewhere.
In the meantime, I looked at the Better Business Bureau, and this company has a D+ rating where he kept over $8000 of clients money. One can easily find this by googling Mike Welland Better Business Bureau Welland. Unfortunately we did not do this before the purchase. With the stairlift not working the cheque was stopped and Mike King was notified to remove the faulty equipment with the intermittent electrical problems.
Almost a week later, Mike King came to remove the equipment. Upon leaving he said that he was putting a contractor's lien on the house for the installation costs.
This is an egregious use of such a tool, and I'm sure that this will end up in the courts and rather poorly for Mike King and Access Renovations, but in the meantime I would urge others to avoid this business.
