No power in two bedrooms in a 1966 Townhouse
I contacted Great Dane Electric (GDE) on a Thursday via phone to book an appointment for following week as my tenant had said there was no power in two of the bedrooms upstairs- however the breaker hadn't tripped. (My first call to 'another company" was unable to get me an appointment for 2 weeks)
Martin was able to book an appointment for me around my schedule for the following week. We conversed first on the phone then via TEXT which was VERY CONVENIENT because I am always on the go, plus all the details are in writing. He told me Dan would be coming over at 1pm. I asked a ball park question about rates and if it was blown breaker how much it was to replace. Martin, without hesitation messaged me back outlining that "It's $129 including travel and 30 min of labor after that it's Journeyman rate of 85$ hour. I won't be able to give you a price on material but a 15amp breaker is usually around $15' ... I appreciated that he was transparent and not vague about what the fees are for my straightforward question.. some companies don't want to tell you anything when you ask a straight forward question.
Dan ended up calling me the day of appointment because he didn't have the unit # for my townhouse from my initial booking. He was in the complex but didn't know which unit it was, (not a big deal as I was available to answer, only...a small hiccup)
Dan was still there within 15 minutes of my scheduled appointment. He trouble shot the problem and began testing every electrical outlet/switch in the two rooms, explaining that any wires that may be loose would cause both rooms not to work (townhouse was from 66 and that's how they did wiring back then). After going through each socket/switch finally on the last one he loosened something in the box and voila we had power. The clamp in the junction box appeared to be too tight and was pinching the wires --is what I understood to be the problem.
Dan explained Martin would contact me for invoicing. He was gone by about 3pm. Before I could follow up with Martin, he had sent me a message basically asking if I was happy. Which I was, because we now had power. Later that evening I received the invoice via email with a link to pay via email transfer (there were other options but this was the easiest). I had to re contact martin via text to have my unit # added to the invoice because it was missing on the first one and I needed it for tax purposes. New invoice was sent the same evening.
GDE was fantastic to deal with; I absolutely will be using them again for future renovation projects and for help with my rentals. I was confident they would be there and it was easy to re confirm as I knew martin was an avid text user and a quick message the day of appointment confirming if Dan was running on time was easy to send.
thanks guys! Natasha
