Air Quality Control signed a contract with me Sept.25/12 to remove a "13 seer" a/c unit and install a "16 seer"rated a/c unit. I would also receive a $400.00 rebate from the Ontario Power Authority.
In Oct/12 Air Quality Control installed a "14.5 seer" rated unit, shook my hand and walked out my door without notifying me of what they had done.
One week later Air Quality Control mailed me an Ontario Power Authority rebate form asking me to sign ASAP and return to them. When I reviewed the rebate form it was then that I noticed that i was only in line for a $250.00 rebate from OPA??????
When reading the small print it was then I discovered Air Quality Control installed a 14.5 seer a/unit.
When I called the office I spoke the the secretary, Kimberly, who acknowledged she knew what happened but was directed to mail out the form. She was advised by her company that "$250.00 was better than nothing"
She also said that if I was only worried about the rebate I could just send her back the form and she would increase the ratings on the form knowing that "the OPA would not go to your home, open up your furnace and see what was installed"
Air Quality Control addresses complaints in a less than timely manner.
Three weeks later when asked to provide options Air Quality Control stated they would,
1: bump me to a 15 seer unit (not 16) which would give me a $400.00 rebate however not refund the difference for the 16 seer I paid for.
2: remove their a/c leaving me without my old unit however refund my money
OR
3: sell me at a great deal on one of their furnaces which would give me the 16 seer that was agreed upon.
I have requested that Air Quality Control HONOR the contract by whatever means necessary or compensate me for the fraud they have committed.
I paid $2900.00 for a unit that is barely more efficient than my old unit therefore my energy savings are minimal. Had I known what was going to be installed I would have cancelled the contract and kept my money.
Air Quality Control has made it very clear they have no intentions of compensating me for taking my money and knowingly installing a lesser efficient a/c unit that was agreed upon.
What a nightmare!
- Approximate cost of services:
- $2,900.00
- What could this company do to improve their services?
- When a contractor breaks a contract as severe as this one he must understand that he cannot be making money on this. He must compensate and possibly lose money on the deal in order to save his reputation and the reputation of the company.
