Avoid at all costs. We hired Fine Lines Painting to paint a few small sections of our house in a full house renovation. In 7 months of renovation and over 100 thousand dollars of interior work, and with numerous contractors, I have never experienced this level of poor quality and unprofessionalism.

Don't let his BBB rating fool you, read his reviews here and on Yelp. They are a true telling of the customer experince with Fine Lines Painting.

Shawn the owner came by the house to provide a quote. When he sent the quote and called me I asked a few questions. I asked if you painted a section of wall and stop, then start after it has dried will it cause a problem. He responded that "That is correct if you only paint the top portion you will have problems with blending". I asked this because I could have painted the lower sections but wanted the finished result to be good and would pay for someone to do all of it properly at once. The quote also included sanding.

Fast forward one week to the start day. I arrived at the house to find the painter sleeping in their vehicle with legs out their window. I woke her up and let her in the house, showed her the job and let her get to work. Later that evening I stopped by the house to see the progress. The bottom two thirds of the wall had been primed and painted with colour, and the top third left bare. They did exactly what he stated would cause an issue with blending. The sections that had been painted had clealry not been sanded between coats. Shawn did admit that the sanding was not done by his workers as stated in the quote.

Shawn then called me. He stated that there were areas that needed mudding repair. I asked him if he could do the work. We agreed to an additional cost for the problems to be looked after. The next day Fine Lines Painting was to complete their work. When we inspected after they were "done" on the second day, many issues were discovered. There were numerous splatters and drips. There were those sections of wall that had not been sanded (he did admit to this after the second inspection by him). There were two sections that had a railing before that had been removed and did require work from our taper.

When I called him to discuss the issues he began to blame our drywaller. We hired "Plaster & Drywall Solutions", they did our entire house and did an excellent job. Shawn of fine lines was now saying "the mudding was terrible".

He stated in a response to another negative review that he has over 20 years experience. If this is the case he should have easily identified that the "mudding/taping was terrible" when he came for the original quote. We agreed on the fact that his painter had not sanded between coats, and that there were numerous drips that had to be fixed. We agreed to an aditional cost for him to take care of the imperfections that needed mud - He agreed to this and continued to paint without fixing what he said he would.

The areas that we painted ourselves were immaculate and also drywalled/mudded by the same person. It was clear that besides the areas where the hand rail was, the issue was with a careless and bad paint job.

Shawn ended our communication with a personal attack on my family and the drywaller:

"It's truly amazing that you're getting an old couple to paint your house and I'm sure that the guy who does the taping he does it on the side. It's obvious you're trying to get this job done as cheaply as possible and that's what you get when you hire people who don't know what they're doing"

The areas painted by us are exceptional, especially when you compare it to the areas Fine Lines Painting did. The drywallers reviews on homestars speak for themselves.

I hired Shawn of Fine Lines Painting to repaint my 2000 sq foot home for the price he quoted plus additional charges I agreed to for paint color changes. He brags about his 20 year family business. The paint application itself would have been okay had the walls been repaired and prepped as quoted. Damage below 3 feet was left and painted over. Did not use additional lighting. The patches that were done show through the paint. Some patches weren't even sanded let alone primed. Had to leave sticky notes all over house on spots that were missed or poorly finished. Doesn't look like paint was strained because he painted on hair, tape, paint lumps etc. Lots of drips on carpets and appliances. This company has an unresolved complaint with the BBB. Wish I'd have read the previous review, I would have run the other way. Now I have to pay to have my walls redone. He also added an additional 225.00 extra charge over my signature on the quote after the work was complete. Unfortunately I saw the majority of the defects the following day in full daylight. Would not recommend this company.

Other companies told us it would take at least a week, where it took u a day and a half. Even ahead of time you quoted us originally. The accuracy in which the edging around the trims were done is incredible. Thank you also for being so flixible with the additional little paint jobs I asked you for. We're glaad we found you and we will definitely use your services for any future projects and will highly recommend you to friends, family and clients.

we had found this company on the bbb. they had any a+ rating and upon meeting him, he seemed to take pride in his work. We paid for a tinted primer layer plus 2 finish coats plus pole sanding all walls. They rushed the job(2 people finished in not even 4 days work on 5000 square foot house). Supposedly 2 coats installed in the same day, even though primer showing through in areas. There is picture framing on the top of the walls, areas where they rolled too low and picked up dirt off the floor and rolled onto the walls, and half way up the wall you can see you the roller marks(top half painted, then bottom half but not blended in). Some areas are rough which is evidence that pole sanding wasn't done on the walls. I would never have this company do work for me again nor would I recommend this company to anyone.
