Installation of New Septic Tank

When we purchased our house the home inspector warned us the septic tank on the property was very old and would need replacing. A couple years after it was still working fine, but we decided to get on it in order to avoid any disasters. We called several local companies and went with Gimli Precast as the price was reasonable and they came recommended from local sources. This was a bad decision. First, they did not show up when they said they would to give us an estimate. At least a month after calling them we called again and got something like, "We came and had a look but no one was around." I work from home so I'm always home during the day. Anyhow, they finally came and gave the estimate and told us they'd get the job done within the month. This was probably June 2008. The job did not get done until the end of November 2008. In these months I called them several times and always got a similar response, "Soon." Nearing the actual time it got done they told me that they did not have access to a truck to haul away the old tank and other waste so it would have to sit there for the winter and they'd get it in the spring. I should have just canceled then (and multiple other times) but I didn't. They did come and drove all the way around our house with large machinery. Now even in late November the ground was not firm enough for all of this activity. They did the job, but their large machinery left HUGE ruts in our yard. One large truck (the truck they said they couldn't get?) got stuck and made an enormous mess! They also said they'd bring the septic tank lower and more level with the rest of the yard, but they didn't do that at all. So they left us with a large dirt mound on top, full of pieces of old debris and over 100 feet of very deep ruts in our lawn. Then had the nerve to demand payment right away. We paid but with the assurance that they would be back in spring to fix the damage. Can you guess what happened? Firstly I could barely get a hold of them. Finally I got them on the phone and they told us that he would come with a Bobcat to help out but they would not provide any fill, topsoil or grass seed as it was our fault for bringing them in. I told them that if they had told me that sort of damage was even remotely possible I would never have had it done. It devolved into an unpleasant argument and finally I decided to wash my hands of the company entirely. I didn't want them anywhere near my property again. We are still working to get our lawn repaired, but it is some major damage. I would never recommend this company to anyone. I only gave them 1 star because the septic tank does function.
