medical alert system

I convinced my elderly mother to have a medical help button she could push if she were in trouble and needed assistance as she lived on her own. We engaged Alarm Force. No contract term was required. Mom recently passed away. I spent the day on the phone cancelling cable and phone, having utility bills property tax bills transferred to me to ensure they get paid etc.and cancelling phone, cable etc. All of these were done by a simple phone call. Then came Alarm Force. I informed them of Moms passing. They insisted to cancel I send this in writing and include a copy of a death certificate all to cancel a simple $30 / month service. Within 7 to 10 days of receiving the written notice they would send a courier label to return the system and I would need to either take it to the courier office or be at home for them to pick it up. They simply said this is their policy. I asked for a manager. First they were in a meeting then none were in. Then they tried to tell me managers couldn't help me because this was their policy. I could handle the return by courier but what got me was the absurdity of written notice including a copy of the death certificate. To me it seemed they simply wanted to extend the number of days I would pay for the system. All I kept hearing was thats our policy. After about 45 minutes of being bounced around including tech support I told them this is my policy. You delivered and installed the system. You want it back. Pick it up tomorrow at Moms house. I will be there all day. That will be $37.50 plus HST... that's our policy. At this point I was already stressed with Moms passing and now aggravated by these people. Here is my policy. Pick it up if you want it. The Visa account you have been charging is closed. Good luck collecting from someone who is deceased. They picked it up but I shouldn't have had to fight with them. If they had of simply said, like every other service did that day... sorry for your loss. We will send you a courier lable to return the system that would have been the end of it. I can see where their tactics would intimidate many especially the elderly and they would simply give in. Their policy is for the birds.

Approximate cost of services:
$35.00
