My Viking Range's self cleaning oven door lock was not engaging so I called Service 4 Appliances based on their rating in the HomeStars forum. I specifically asked if they serviced Viking which the company representative said that they did, "all the time". I told them what the problem was and they said they would send someone out on Sat. between 1 and 4 pm. The repair person arrived at 5:05 pm (1+ hour late). I told him what the problem was and he proceeded to try to open the front panel on the range. We should have stopped him then as it was very obvious that he did not know what he was doing. He took the top of the range apart, tested the lock mechanism, said it was fine then took 45 minutes putting it back together. My husband had to step in as he stripped a small screw trying to put it in with a power driver. He put the knobs on incorrectly (too tight, would not turn) and broke the inside of one so that it would not stay on. We paid the $300 bill, and signed the invoice...stupid us, we should have read the fine print at the bottom which said we were also verfying that the appliance was put back together properly and clearing them of any responsibility for damage. When I went to clean the oven overnight, the lock was still not working! I called Service 4 Appliances to make them aware of all the issues and all they said was I shouldn't have let him continue to work on it once I saw he was inept (they admitted that he was fairly new) and that the only thing they could do was order the part and I would not be charged labour to put it in. Do I want one of their service people back in my home?...I think not!
Was smarter the next time...called the manufacturer and got a referral. They would not even come out until they had the door lock part as to do otherwise "would be a waste of everyone's time" as this is apparently a common issue.
Carpe Diem
