Resolution of Sump Pump Problem
In 2015 Aquatech did some exterior weatherproofing on part of our basement, which is more than 100 years old. They also installed a sump pump. On Sunday morning, one week before Christmas, I detected that the pump was grumbling and I promptly disconnected it. We bailed out the murky water, and hoped for the best overnight.
I called Aquatech the next morning, and Andrew came to our house the same day. He confirmed what we feared, the pipe through which the water is expelled was completely frozen. He explained that the decision to bury the pipe for the sake of our landscaping left it susceptible to freezing. He was also able to confirm that the sump pump was still functional, which was a great relief. At our convenience, Nick came to install a length of pipe to divert the water away from the house. As per Andrew's proposal, he said that at a later date they would return to install a system that would allow us to use the underground pipe during summer, and convert to the above ground pipe during winter, resolving the risk of freezing. This they did with patience, understanding, detailed explanations that I could readily understand, and they did it for nothing. I thought we might be getting a new sump pump for Christmas this year. I would say that Andrew and Nick gave us a very generous and greatly appreciated gift. I couldn't be more impressed with their service.
