Several Issues in one washroom/shower

I opened a job in HomeStars and after several days received a response from Tim. He was very prompt on responding to my messages and we agreed on a date he is going to arrive. I was a bit surprised that Justin showed up instead of Tim.

I had several issues that had to be addressed:

1. Replace the toilet mechanism because of a leak (I had the new parts) - was replaced without any issues.
2. Slow drainage from walk in shower. The plumber assumed that he can snake and resolve the issue; however, after close examination he concluded that the whole set up will have to be rebuild because it wasn't accessible. I was given a quote of $5.5K to do shower stall overhaul.
3. Hot water pressure in a shower. Justin assumed that the issue is the cartridge and he replaced it with a new cartridge that I had available. However, the issue was not resolved, it became even worse. He suggested that the only other 2 options were either to replace the valve (but for that you need to break the tiles to reach "...a box.." ) or to replace the whole faucet system. Eventually I was left with barely working shower and a suggestion to replace the whole thing.

A month later I invited a general contractor to discuss the replacement of the whole shower system. He said that replacing everything is of course an option, but he said there are things to do before that which will probably solve both outstanding problems and save a lot of money.

He explained that valves are easily replaceable and explained what needs to be done. He also talked about getting a commercial drainage cleaner and use it instead of the regular ones you can buy in a store.

Surprise surprise, we solved the issues on our own without paying thousands of dollars. There were no box and it was all easily accessible.

So in my opinion it was a lack of knowledge and practical experience from a plumber that left me with no choice but to replace everything. I wasn't given any other option but this.

If I am paying for services I better get the best advice and not go to the last resort of replacing everything.
If you do decide to go with this company make sure you are getting an experienced person.

Incredible double bathroom transformation!

Tim and Grand Springs Plumbing gutted, restored and refinished both my upstairs and downstairs bathrooms over the course of the last couple weeks and I couldn't be more thrilled with the results! Having never been involved in a job of this magnitude before I had my reservations with the process. However the professionalism and quality exhibited by Grand Springs Plumbing was above and beyond to reassure any concerns I may have had. What I experienced was absolute transparency each step of the way and they really made it feel like a true collaboration. All important decisions were run by me first, but to be honest I relied on their expertise most of the time. Grand Springs were consummate professionals and always carried a positive attitude.
I couldn't recommend them any higher and look forward to many years to come of enjoying my new bathrooms and increased value on my house. Great experience! Now time to decorate :D

Outside Faucet Re-configuration

Justin was at my door the morning after I called about a malfunctioning frost-free outdoor faucet. I wanted to have it changed to a standard outdoor faucet and interior shut-off valve combination. He and his assistant Joel worked carefully, making the necessary but neat cuts on the inside plaster wall, positioning the shut off valve so as not to intrude into the room, extending the outside pipe so that it no longer threatened to drip on the badly positioned electric outlet below. In short, they were attentive to detail and did their job with utmost professionalism. I'd have them back in a minute.

Stack replacement and repair other pipes in basement

We noticed water leaking out of one of the walls of our basement whenever we used our 2nd floor bathroom. We called Grand Springs who came by right away and quickly identified the problem as a crack in the cast iron stack in our basement. They explained the issue and took the time to show us what the problem was. They gave us an estimate and were able to complete the work on time the next day. We were pleased with the work so we had them come back later that week to fix a broken trap in the floor that was also causing problems. So far, no more leaks in the basement.

They were reasonably priced, friendly, on time and answered all the questions that we had. Overall, a positive experience. Would recommend to others.

Replacement of stack

I needed the main stack in my house replaced, at the request of our insurance company. The gentlemen at Grand Springs helped me determined what was necessary to replace, keeping in mind the renovations we had done already and the renovations we have planned. They were very competitively priced, professional, courteous and did a great job. I had some questions a few days after they finished their work and they were very responsive and helpful even then. I would definitely recommend them and wish I had stumbled across them earlier in our renovations!
