Installation of glassy panel in bathroom and installation of sliding glass door.

The shower door was installed on-time, within budget and well done. The sliding glass door is 7 months overdue including incorrect measurements (to the tune of 5"), delays, excuses, more excuses, even more excuses and sadly I have given up after so trying to give Mark and Jane the benefit of the doubt. They have many negative reviews on Homestars and I had hoped they were not true. For simple shower door installations, they're great. Anything else is beyond their capabilities.

Frameless shower glass for our neo-angled shower base

Hired Mark at Ontario Custom Glass to supply and install the frameless shower glass for our neo-angled shower base. I should have searched forums like this one first!
Firstly, he kept insisting that no-one has to be home for the install… -Big flag here people.
Secondly, he mixed up the shower door with that of another customer’s, and when Mark came back to install the door, he didn’t have the proper hinge gaskets that he previously installed on the supporting glass panel. –These were a nice black non-intrusive, almost invisible hinge gasket. The gasket he used on the door was an ugly white, in-your-face, jaggedly cut like he made them on the spot with dull scissors… -Just plain cheap and very unprofessional looking.
There were only eight hinge screws required for the installation but it was as if Mark had to rummage through the bottom of his tool box to find something to use, not having the proper hardware. –Very disorganized. The few screws that were meant for the hinges were stripped of their Philips screw heads during installation as if installed with a power drill, and over-torqued. The remaining screws were a variety of types, materials, and colours –not to suit the hinge finish or material. Unfortunately, we did not see, nor recognize this until he was paid and out the door. Going forward, I’ll hang onto the balance until the job is thoroughly inspected and meets my expectations.
I called him a total of sixteen times. At first, he seemed understanding and told me that his helper messed up and that it’ll only take him five minutes to change the gaskets and screws. The other fifteen times he just made one excuse after the other, zero accountability.
The shower door became loose to the point that it was rubbing on the glass panel opposite the hinges. This was a very serious deficiency on several levels. The time he spent telling me all his excuses would have covered the five minutes (several times over) that he told me it would take to resolve!
Folks, do yourself a favour check forums like this one first. There are better contractors out there. Mark at Ontario Custom Glass is just a bad apple.

shower enclosure

I emailed Mark in the early evening, and an hour later he phoned me back and was here the next morning to measure - fast! As soon as the glass was ready he and his wife came and installed it. There's a 1/16 th inch space between the door and the fixed glass pane - accurate! It was just Mark and his wife doing the installation and it only took an 1 1/2 hours. I much prefer small companies for a personall touch.

Install Frameless Shower Cubicle

Mark came and measured the exact shape needed as no manufactured unit would fit despite having an exhaustive search. He took measurements, priced the install and gave me an install date which conflicted with my travel plans. He suggested I contact him on my return which I did. At first the said it would be later in the week and then later in the day he came back and confirmed the install for the following day. An hour early, Mark and Jay fitted the shower and left everything clean and tidy. The bathroom looks totally different and a joy to use.

Interior Glass Railing

This may sound repetitive since our story is the same as Karen's and several other's who ordered interior glass railing through Mark. We had a clear contract signed on April 7th with a delivery date scheduled for the end of April. We paid 2/3 payments in return for a wooden post wrongly installed which has ruined our hardwood. He did not contact us until we did to address the post which he maintains that he had always planned to install it as he did but his drafts and measurements prove otherwise. In trying to resolve the issue, he requested and additional $600.00 to fix a mistake he made! 3 1/2 months later, he stalls, doesn't take our calls and has put us, our 2 young children and our visitors at risk. He finally showed up to "discuss" the situation and has since disappeared again. We have paid $2800 of the total amount and he just won't come in to install the glass railing. He is inconsiderate, unprofessional and has total disregard for safety. I wish we had known of these reviews prior to hiring him. Hire at your own risk!

Custom glass deck railing

Despite some of the negative reviews, I called Mark for a quote on our glass railing install (including large frosted class hottub enclosure). Mark was knowledgable and qualified for what we wanted done. We are very pleased with the end result, and Mark met the requirements, time, quality and cost agreed to in the contract. His work was done with quality, care and cleanliness.

Addition of glass door and glass partition to condo living room

Fantastic job. Good, honest, hard working company. Installation was quick and clean. The result is exactly what was promised and what we were expecting. And the price was very reasonable. We are very satisfied with the outcome and definitely will recommend them to all our friends.

Shower door install

Through a quick internet seach, I contacted found three vendors and wearily began the calls. It was a few days before New Year's and didn't expect to get anyone live. Of the three I contacted, Ontario Custom Glass spoke to me live, advised me of their promotion ending December 31st and squeezed me in for a quote. The representative was knowledgable and assured me my river rock slabs would not break with their glass shower install.
Calls leading up to the install were answered immediately or followed up within 1 business day. Realistic deadlines were set and met.
The install was done professionally, my river rock intact, I received exactly what I ordered at the price agreed to.
Very pleased with the finished product.

What could this company do to improve their services?
Have a few samples on hand of typical hinges. Very helpful for visual decision makers. Difficult to pick from a book sometimes.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Understand glass thickness and what your glass shower install requires (larger can require thicker glass). Visit showrooms and consider the finished look. We opted out of a towel bar connected to the glass wall. It would have been practical but would have resulted in a clunky look. Pleased with the decision although reduced functionality and now need to install hooks on the wall (small bathroom and protruding fixtures would eat into the space).

Glass railing

BUYER BEWARE!!! I hired Mark to install both my glass shower door and railing system. The shower door was installed with a chip from the glass partially hidden under the hardware so upon 1st glance it looks well done- closer inspection the chip looks awful.
The railing system is sitting partially installed and not to code. Having paid 2/3rds of the deposit Mark has tried to extort additional money from me and refuses to finish the job. All in addition to having dropped a 6x4 ft piece of glass from my second floor impacting and damaging my brand new wood floors on the first floor, taking out chunks of drywall on the way down. He continues to deny accountability for the damage. Thankfully I have gotten a couple of true professional opinions and not only is the job incomplete, the work that was done is done incorrectly and now poses a safety risk. (it will cost double what I budgeted to fix Marks mess)
Please learn from my costly mistake and avoid doing business with Mark and his associated companies. He does not stand by his work. He has ripped me off for my deposit of $2300 + an additional $1000 sent the day before the botched installation.
Total AMATEUR with no conscience. If he did it to me, you could be next.
