We had an On Ground pool installed last year and decided to complete an 850 sq foot Composite PVC deck and Gazebo this spring. After researching contractors and interviewing four, we decided on Bob Scanlan and his company. The decision wasn’t based on cost but rather how professional and open Bob was and how he offered ideas and suggestions. He was prompt in his response and met with me to understand the scope of the project. He again met with me over Xmas and we compared my draft plan to his and he made further suggestions. I was concerned with getting the number of deck boards correct given the cost of Composite boards. Bob was very helpful in this process. In the spring Bob showed up with his team, his son Jason (who I’ve nicknamed Mr Meticulous) and Frank who is a master of angle cutting. From day one until the project was complete, I had complete confidence I made the right decision. Bob, Jason and Frank took our vision for the yard and literally brought it to life far beyond my expectations. Jason and Frank’s attention to detail was impressive and they complimented each other’s skills. The project came in at estimate and my concern for “waste” with expensive composite was not an issue as they respected my waste concerns.....164 boards with 8 left over....because we changed the deck by a foot. If you want a team of people who are professional in their approach, make the project fun, are helpful with suggestions, are concerned with detail and respect their estimate then, I highly recommend you call Bob Scanlan and with Jason and Frank, you won’t regret your decision.

I discovered Bob Scanlan on HomeStars and he lived up to the terrific reviews posted there. Bob showed up personally to examine our backyard and discuss our plans. At our request he made suggestions to enhance our original plans, including the use of an exotic hardwood. Bob then provided a detailed quote, with a structured payment plan and a tentative schedule, explaining that the job would be weather dependent.

Bob also served as the general contractor for our backyard, bringing in professionals to handle the concrete patio, lighting and staining. All of these men performed at a high level and to our satisfaction. Bob held himself responsible for their work and he Bob himself readily dealt with any questions or concerns.

Our backyard is now beautiful, the envy of our friends and neighbours. The detail in the woodwork, the care in the actual construction and the coordination of the various facets of the project resulted in the end product exceeding our expectations.

Based on our recent basement renovation project, we would not hesitate to recommend Scanlan Contracting for any renovation work. The quoting process was done in a professional manner and, with his I-Phone permanently fixed to his hip, Bob was always reachable either by phone, text or email. Responses to queries were always promptly handled. Bob organized & coordinated all sub-trades (electrical, painter, plumber, etc.) so we did not have to worry about that side of things. There was great care taken by Bob & his team to respect our home by using drop sheets on the floors to avoid unecessary mess/damage, and the work site was cleaned up at the end of every day. When necessary, work was completed on weekends to keep to the targetted time frame. And finally, when obstacles presented themselves, Bob dealt with them calmly and professionally, and did everything he could to make things right.

As to background for interested customers of your service, we had just moved into a buy down, smaller home in preparation for retirement, only to realize that the bungalow needed a lot more work than we had
originally thought.

It also became obvious that it would take way more time than we were prepared to spend to fix it up ourselves.

So we called a few contractors and had some quotes and almost by
"happenstance" came across your website.

We liked the fact that it was a dad and son team and that you had been in business for a long time. The fact that you showed up on the appointment day; on time, listen well and had some creative ideas
worked in your favour. Particularly, in the context of us not wanting to spend a lot of money on a basement bathroom.

The references you supplied also confirmed our thoughts as to your talents, And they supported our a sense of the "real value" for the money that you guys would provide, particularly as you were not the least expensive of the folks we had contacted.

So we hired you to simply redo the basement bathroom (which turned into a gut). That bathroom (toilet, shower and vanity, plus all the walls, ceiling with pot lights and a vent fan, plus a porcelain tiled
floor) turned out really well. And you did your best to stay within budget given all the "gut work" you had to do, which was appreciated. We then asked you to rebuild the basement bedroom. Again very, very
pleased.

The kitchen floor was next - take up old ceramic tiles and badly done subfloor. Replace them with a cement subfloor, lay porcelain tiles with a tight grout line. And that too looks really good. We then asked you to put porcelain tiles on the basement laundry room I was building and that looks excellent, particularly as the cement floor was not level.

Finally, we needed your talents to gut and redo the main floor bathroom, which considering all that had to be done turned out to be just incredible ... and Jason, had some excellent ideas for this bathroom and for that mater all the rooms you guys worked on.

So please use us as a reference. It would be an hounour. And my wife loves you guys.
