There are few things more difficult than enduring a renovation. After a set of permitted plans has been issued there comes the most important decision-who to hire as a general contractor.(Don't do it yourself;it will take years off your life.) A friend pointed us in the right direction."You need Vince"he said. It didn't take long for us to feel we'd made the right decision but it wasn't until the end when another friend asked "Would you hire him again?" that we knew for certain because the answer came so quickly and so easily-"Yes. Without a doubt.Yes."
The reasons are ,we think, all the right ones. Vince Spitale does what he says he'll do on time, within budget limitations and to exacting standards. He's available every day, always returns calls (usually within five minutes) explains what will happen in any given time period, is as flexible as you need him to be (within reason of course) doesn't overbook yet has enough on the go that you know he's not about to go bankrupt, and he's been doing this for enough years to have smoothed off the rough edges. His guys are genuinely courteous, marvellously competent and very nice people to boot . We must especially remark about his business partner, Anthony, who is the ideal complement -quiet, reserved,a terrific carpenter and wonderfully persistent in solving the great variety of problems that inevitably arise.
It took us time because we'd had some horrible experiences with contractors over the years, but we came to trust Vince and Anthony totally. If you're about to put yourself through the suffering of a renovation-and you will suffer- at least give yourself the advantage of doing it without some of the usual stressors. You can roll the dice and likely experience the crap that comes with this kind of project, or avoid it all by choosing Vince.
