Complete lack of clear communication, lack of accountability
Everything seemed to be going well. We bought a unit at Canoe that was to be a rental property last summer and will be taking possession in August. This spring, we find out that our previous possession date was moved from Sept or Oct to July or August. When questioned, AVI representatives stated that this has been repeatedly identified in frequent emails. As it turns out, there were more than one email lists and the most used had the WRONG address for us! We had missed countless emails and construction updates and now we're to prepare for possession in as little as a month.
After a stressful period things died down. When it came to closing the deal, yet another error on AVIs part occurred which has cost us dearly. And the worst part of it all, absolutely no effort to rectify the situation. In fact, the area sales manager has insinuated that we never did identify the unit as a rental property! From the very beginning we were very clear of the point and several emails have been sent bs k and forth asking various questions about tenants, rentals, rental income etc. But why the big deal?? Because if a condo is to be a rental, the GST rebate does not apply. That would have saved us over $4000 and was identified on our purchase agreement. So now all of a sudden we are on the hook for thousands of dollars that we had never agreed to plus additional legal fees in order to clean up AVIs mess. AVI then submitted the wrong SIA which very nearly cost us many more thousands in late fees. And when approached by us asking them to consider rectifying the situation by even paying the extra legal fees that were brought on by THEIR errors, I was told that we never told them it was a rental property. Deciet and complete unprofessionalism is what you will find with AVI in Calgary.
