Several years ago I had Simon and the guys at Royal Construction Services do a basement apartment for me to rent out. I was happy with the work and liked the way he dealt with me and my wife. He did my ensuite bathroom for me last year, again I was very happy. I phoned him this spring to ask him if he knew a good roofer as my roof was leaking. He informed me that he did that work as well. He came and did the roof and then repaired the damage inside for us on the first warm day. In all the times we have used him the quality of the work has been excellent, the different products and prices were explained so that we could make our decision how to proceed. We never felt pressured or up-sold, and we appreciated that. Simon manages his crew well, they work clean and efficiently and were very courteous and professional when dealing with us. Also, he was on the job with his crew the whole time, not somewhere else while they worked. I highly recommend Royal Construction Services. Simon and his crew at Royal Construction have done numerous jobs fo us over the past 3 years. The first project we hired him for was the renovation of our bungalow. Simon and his team renovated the whole main floor of our bungalow including a bathroom renovation, installing a new floor, tile work, drywalling and installing all new internal doors. We also hired Simon to replace our chimney and build a stone retaining wall around our flower bed. In all instances he did an excellent job, was always very accommodating and friendly. He always arrived when promised and completed the job on time. We would highly recommend Royal Constuction.

Simon Moritz is a gem. He was able to restore our trust in contractors, repairing and reinstalling a damaged awning. He’s easy to work with: fair and honest, willing to explore options and to answer questions. He’s patient, courteous, and personable; his quotes/rates are reasonable AND his work is solid. Beyond that, he also COMMUNICATES (a highly desirable attribute), emailing or phoning with updates, material or schedule changes, etc. Moreover, he is willing to drive into To from Aurora. No surprise that I’ve asked Simon to do more work, including brick repair/tuckpointing, eavestrough replacement. And I’m very pleased that some of my neighbours are now calling Simon to work for them.

Simon first worked for me/my family in 1991, in Regina Saskatchewan, where we are both originally from. I think he had just graduated high school at that point, but had been working in the trades during the summers. He did a renovation of a bathroom for a neighbour of my parents. I asked him about redoing the shingles, and had him do them. He did so at a reasonable price, and took extra care to ensure the job was done properly, and neatly. My parents were impressed, as was I. He did a reno on my parent`s farm house outside of the city, he did their bathroom and built their garage in the years to follow. I had moved to Ontario already, and bought a house in 1998. I wanted to renovate it myself, but could not do it around my work schedule. I hired some local guys who made a complete disaster of my kitchen job. (structural damage). I had to let them go, and phoned my parents to see if they could locate Simon for some advice on what to do. I was very happy to find that he had recently relocated to Ontario. I hired him for the kitchen redo, and over the next number of years he completed the rest of the interior of the house in its entirety, and did the interlocking driveway and landscaping for me as well. I also had him maintain and repair two rental properties I had purchased. He worked for my inlaws and their neighbours doing numerous in home renos, interlock, roofing and even used a backhoe to install a beach head at their cottage. (That was impressive). I relocated to Saskatchewan again a year or so ago for work. Simon had come back to visit his family in the fall, and made the effort to drop by and say hello to my parents. I was there at the time and joked that his roofing job was getting a little rough (21 years old). He said get some guys and take off the shingles, rent a nailer and he would come put the shingles on as long as we had some help to bring the shingles up. He did the job in a day during his vacation, and that is the kind of effort I have come to know from him. When he asked me to provide a review for homestars, I was more than happy to do it. I have used this contractor`s services for over 20 years and he is younger than I am (41), That says something about his experience and how he relates to a customer. Royal Construction Services has completed several projects on my house. These include a concrete front walk, the rebuilding of a front porch overhang, brick pointing, and parging along the foundation of the house. In each case, I have found Simon and the Royal Construction crew very pleasant to deal with. Simon provides a quote promptly. The crew arrive when they say they will arrive, work til the job is done, and clean up afterward. I will call Royal Construction whenever I need work done.

Hired owner,Simon M to rebuild my flagstone walkway ,stone porch and steps. The project cost about $12,000. His crew poured the concrete form for the steps and he subcontracted work to a stone mason Jeff V. The steps don't meet Ontario Building Code standards. The overhang on each step ranges from 1 3/4 inches to 2.5 inches. My visitors have tripped on it. I also have only 8 inch for the run for the steps which is way too narrow.
Another big mistake was with the walkway. They didn’t grade it properly and I had a water drainage problems. I complained to both the original contractor Simon M & the stone mason Jeff V, but neither one took any responsibility. They both refused to come back to correct both mistakes even though Simon M indicated that there is a 2 year warranty on their work. The tone mason wanted to charge me another $4500 to rebuild the steps. I think it’s appalling that these contractors acted so unprofessionally and irresponsibly and they must be held accountable. I'm with having to hire another contractor to tear down their work and do it all over again.
