new gas furnace and water heater

I did some research and decided on this company because they offered a good price. They, as it turns out do excellent work. If you have a concern they contact you immediately and come as soon as possible to fix the issue. I was so happy with their cost and service, I had them install the same in my two daughters homes too. I had them repair my gas fireplace as well.

Installation of new multi-zone furnace

I am installing a suite in my walk-out basement and regulations require that the suite have a separate furnace, or a zoned furnace, with a zone dedicated to the suite, and at least one other zone dedicated to the rest of the house.
I decided to go with the zoned furnace option. The existing furnace in the house was a mid-efficiency model, and was significantly over capacity for the house. The result of this over-capacity was the development of 'hot spots' in the heat exchanger. Left alone, Manny tells me, these hot spots can eventually burn right through causing the leakage of carbon monoxide into the house. Not a good thing!! So I retired that furnace!
Manny correctly sized a replacement furnace, and because of the size of the house, went with three zones, one for the basement suite, one for the non-suite area of the basement, and one for the main floor of the house. I now have what I regard as a sophisticated heating system that delivers separate controllable heating to all parts of the house.
What I regard as equally good about the furnace installation is that the heat vents in the basement were installed taking advantage of the raised wood foundation in the house. In other words, Ed was able to go down into the crawl space and install heat runs to all parts of the basement and basement suite. He got into places that I certainly cannot get into!
The result of this floor level heat venting in the basement is that the heat in the basement circulates properly, instead of entering the space at ceiling level, and staying up there, creating hot heads and cold feet! Not good!
Manny also installed a new humidifier on the furnace, and installed a sensor on the outside of the house that measures ambient temperature outside, and then automatically sets the humidifer appropriately. Too much moisture is too much of a good thing!
Another positive thing about using Comfortable Home Systems is the fact that Manny can do the gas fitting necessary, and can also do any plumbing required. I contacted other firms for quotes, and in at least one case the company would have had to bring in another trade for one or more of these functions. Up goes the price!
I now have what I regard as a high quality living space in the basement, on par with main floor living.
Bottom line: Manny is very honest and reliable - what he commits to is what he does. And he and his crew do it all cheerfully and on time!

Furnace Replacement

I contacted Comfortable Home Systems (CHS) as the heat exchanger was leaking in my 5-year old York high-efficiency furnace, which had a 10-year parts and labour warranty. Manny came to inspect the furnace and informed me that the heat exchanger had to be replaced. He spent quite some time carefully examining the furnace, reviewed the problems I had over the years (such as various parts being replaced and modifications to the exhaust vent) and checked the carbon monoxide levels in my house. He did not charge a fee for this visit.

Within an hour of leaving my home, Manny called to say that he had contacted York and told them of the problems I had been having with the furnace. York were willing to replace the heat exchanger at no cost to me and also offered a replacement furnace at a reduced price. Given the problems I had in the past, I chose to have the furnace replaced.

On the day arranged for installation, Manny and Ed arrived on time and proceeded to install the furnace. They also moved the humidifier to a better location on the return air vent and installed a larger filter rack with a pleated Honeywell filter. I am very pleased with the work they carried out and their installation looks much better than that done previously. Also, whenever I have contacted CHS with further questions, Sandy has been very helpful in providing answers and promptly returning my calls.

I would strongly recommend CHS and I plan to use them for my future HVAC needs.

New furnace + maintenance

When our furnace broke down in the middle of a January cold snap, Manny had a crew over to get the furnace running to heat the house. He explained the problem, the costs of repairs vs costs of replacing the 20-year-old furnace with a new, high efficiency one. His costs were lower than the other estimates I got, they showed up at the time they said they would and had the work finished on time. I have them back to do routine maintenance every year and am extremely pleased with the work every time.

AC Install

AC unit was installed into new home which already had a thermostat. Shortly after the 1 yr warranty the cooling was not being controlled properly, so we had them send a service tech. After 5 mins he realized it hadn't been wired to thermostat properly, and corrected the problem. Seeing as it was outside of warranty they still made us pay the $170 service call fee, even though it wasn't a warranty issue but rather was an incorrect installation of the wiring. Definitely would not recommend this company as they do not stand behind their work.
