Problem with water. Silt build up in well

There was a silt build up in well, called Harris plumbing, told them our problem. Asked for cost and was told $69.00. Two men came, checked out the silt in back yard and said our well was compromised and we needed a new well. Their well technicians do not know what they were talking about. We were then charged $100 for a service call, bad advice and bad diagnostics. We contacted office and the lady said she insisted she told us 89.00 plus tax. Very bad experience and waste of our time.
Felt very taken advantage of during a stressful time.

$100.00

Company Response

Hello Peggy, i'm so sorry that you have not had a good experience with us.. we are a fully trained, licensed and experienced well contractor however we do not drill new wells. What we specialize in is analyzing the performance of the equipment associated with wells and whether or not a well is compromised - which yours is.
We do record all our phone calls for training and accuracy so i will check to clarify your quoted service fee amount and if we have made an error we will most definitely honour this correction. It has been only $89.00 +hst for many years.
I will speak with our well specialists for their feedback regarding the sludge and silt in your well and his recommendation to you.
We will certainly contact you in the morning to determine if there is anything else we could do for you other than what we did which was to recommend you contact a well driller re repair or replacement which you did not want to do.
We were not simply trying to sell you a new well as Harris Plumbing does not drill wells. This would not benefit us or you. We gave you our professional analysis and recommendation on your situation as you hired us to do and you were charged only our service fee for our site service. We are sorry to hear that you feel this was a waste of your time.

General plumbing repairs

Repairs were needed to replace/repair a valve that had caused significant water damage to our log home. Harris Plumbing made a quick appointment to access the problem and discuss repairs.
Branden was punctual, polite and practiced the appropriate social distancing along with indoor footwear to respect our home.
After reviewing the flood cause and neccessary repairs he pointed out some other areas of potential concern and we introduced some other issues where we wanted to improve the quality and relocate piping in our furnace room. He gave some very sound advice regarding our water softener, water purification, on demand hot water and reverse osmosis systems. A follow-up visit was arranged and once agian Branden was very punctual, neat and caring for our home. His work was impeccable and he explained all that had been done and how to care for things going forward. Branden also made sure that we could contact him through the company at any time to further explain the work performed or help with any future issues.
We would highly recommend Branden and Harris Plumbing for any plumbing needs.

Install replacement hose from well to house

Pipe from well burst on Thursday late afternoon. I called insurance company they use Harris who called and set appointment for Friday( this was Good Friday. The plumber arrived a little late but understandable being a stat holiday. Spencer immediately assessed the situation & based on his finding that the hose was not up to code but also brittle recommended that we install new line from the well.
Spencer called insurance company & was informed that the work would not be covered. Spencer than outline what was involved & made an appointment fo Monday. After he left I decided to dig trench myself on weekend so work could be completed on Monday. I called Spencer to let him know so he could adjust his schedule. Spenser & Mike arrived around 10:30 started work & I had water in my house by 12:00.
We were impressed by Spencer & Mike & highly recommend them. They are a great asset to your company.

Terrible service, ridiculous prices

Dont use these people. Bad information and combined with ridiculous prices. Is this a lack of knowledge or questionable sales tactics?

I called Harris to investigate a leaking kitchen faucet in a rental basement apartment. They sent someone who I thought was a licensed plumber, but later learned that he was an apprentice. He said the faucet was beyond repair and suggested a new one for $ 800.00. Absolutely ridiculous for a basement apartment. I should have sent him home right then but instead I purchased an affordable faucet at Canadian Tire and had him install it. He also found that the main shut off valve was siezed and needed to be replaced and I would have to arrange with the city to turn the water on and off so he could change the valve. The cost for this visit was $ 270.00.

The cost was $ 408.07 plus tax total $ 461.04. He had to have the city come a turn off the water and turn it back on again. The city charges $ 97.70 for this service but it was actually $ 194.40 since he took more than an hour to change the valve and the city charged for two calls. He previously said he could change the valve in an hour but he took longer.

I later checked with the the City of Barrie water department and they were amazed by this. They told me that this is a very common repair that they do on a daily basis and the total charge including turning the water off at the main, supplying and replacing the valve, and turning the water back on is $ 211.75.

So far the total cost to have Harris replace this valve is $ 656.44. This is $ 444.69 more than the City of Barrie would have charged.

When I emailed and sent a registered letter to the President at Harris Plumbing, the service manager replied that faucets do not cost $ 800.00 and he did not believe that any of their employees would do such a thing. He also said that they would have no idea how much the city charges for this service. If the city does this service on a daily basis you would think that a “plumber”, even an apprentice, would know this. They also must see this problem very regularly.

Harris also charged $ 226.71 plus tax (total $ 256.18) to install the faucet. The cost to diagnose and replace the customer supplied faucet now totals $ 1183.00. Unless you think that this is a good price to diagnose and replace a faucet call somebody else.

Approximate cost of services:
$120,000.00
