Academia Roofing & Attics

We had our roof replaced about 2005-6. After reviewing with several contractors we settled on Academia Roofing. During the inspection, Gordon was able to see that the plywood on the roof likely needed replacement due to delamination. He quoted us a fixed price, which included replacement of the decking if required... and in the end it was required. Our house was always very hot upstairs. Gordon made it clear that he could resolve this problem by improving the airflow. When he finally came to do the job, he replaced the decking and rebuilt the air runs that came up from the eaves, as they had never been built properly and there was little air flow. He then added some ridge vents and things have been much better.
Gordon is also proud of his work and occasionally he drives down the street to inspect his old work. When we mentioned that the upstairs was much better, but still warm in the summer he added a Maximum chimney to really get the air moving in the attic.
Besides just doing the roof, he also arranged to add to the insulation in the roof so that our R value increased a lot causing our air conditioning and heating costs to go down.
He also finished off everything nicely in aluminum. The water does not run down the roof from the upper to lower levels. He has metal runs which protect the roof nicely. Neighbors with similar roof lines have these ugly runs down their roof showing more deterioration in these high volume run areas. Our roof still looks like it was put down yesterday.
We have been very happy with the job Academia did for us and I would recommend Gordon and team to any of you. Not the cheapest around, but in the long term, best value for money, as my roof will now last so much longer with the improved air flow.

When we discovered our 15 year old home needed a new roof, I called several different companies for estimates. Academia was definitely the most knowledgable and the most thorough. He checked our attic for mold, and checked our bathroom vents and found they were blocked. The focus was on getting the job done well. We found our heating costs decreased after the new roof was put on as well. we would definitely recommend them.

My 145 year old Mount Albert Century home's roof, fascia and soffit were in need of repair. As well I had custom milled decorative trim that required installing. So I received tenders ranging from $9-18,000.
Academia's uppermost bid identified concerns overlooked by other contractors such as quality materials, poor ventilation, insufficient insulation and a requirement to replace the century old roof.
Over the course of 4 1/2 days Gord's crew tidily removed debris and professionally installed all necessary high quality materials. The fine attention to detail for the flashing further convinced me that my money was well spent.
Gord promptly addressed onsite concerns professionally and to my satisfaction. In addition Gord and his crew took pride in assisting with the installation of my supplied restoration materials. As well I was impressed by Gord's initiative to follow-up on concerns well after the installation.
Two years later I sold the house. I can assure you that Academia's attention to detail and quality materials greatly added to my home's curb appeal and resale value.
By the way I still live in the community and know the new home owners and can face them knowing they have been bestowed with a well restored quality home.

Late December 2009 water started leaking in our 3rd floor bedroom. Not knowing what to do, I searched the Canpages and found Academia Roofing.
I chose Academia because it boasted a motto of "Our goal is to earn a referral from each and every client" and encouraged one the check their history.
Gordon Bailey came quickly and did a inspection of my attic. What he found was quite shocking for a 10 year new home.
1. Snow had built up inside the attic from improperly installed roof vents that actually pulled snow into the attic.
2. The roofing plywood had stains from water leaking in around the roofing nails
3. The bathroom fans were not venting properly
4. One section of the attic did not have adequate insulation
Gordon explained and pointed out each issue and the resulting damages they were causing.
The total job required:
-removal of the old, soaked insulation
-installation of new fiberglass insulation
-installation of blow insulation
-installation of spray foam insulation
-removing the old venting
-installing a new single roof vent
-installation of new bathroom venting and insulating the bathroom venting tubes to prevent condensation in the attic
-new shingles installed over the old (cost savings to me)

Gord's crew worked professionally and courteously. The work area was always left clean and tidy.
The results have been great. My third floor is now much warmer in the winter and my heating bill has been lowered. The roof has shown no signs of leaking and the new shingles look great.

Our roof is already 27 years old, and we hired the wrong contractor to fix it. Thankfully, a friend recommended Academia roofing, and before long our roof was redone perfectly and punctually. The workers are talented in their work and didn't leave a single detail out. All the extra waste on the roof was also cleaned for our convenience as well. Go with their warranty services, it will be very helpful! Their amazing quality was totally worth the price. I would totally recommend this company if you are in need of such services.

In 2004 it became necessary to replace our roof. I obtained numerous estimates and finally determined that Academia Roofing was the best company for the job, even though they were more expensive. Gord, whose knowledge of roofs is extensive, explained everything and promised a quality job. We were not disappointed. Old shingles were removed, new ones installed along with damper vents and new counter and wall flashings as well as splash pan and new w style valleys. The job took a little longer than I expeced, but te final result was worth it. Also, they meticulously cleaned the work area. Seven years later, the roof still looks new (the shingles haven't moved even after a tornado swept through our street two years ago!). We just discovered squirrels have chewed through the plastic vents and, right away, the holes have been plugged up and new and improved metal vents are being installed at no cost, (something that could cost around $1250). Gord has assured me that he no longer uses the plastic vents! The saying that 'you get what you pay for' is certainly true in our case. We are very pleased with the quality of the workmanship, service, and follow-up attention even after seven years. We would certainly recommend Gord (Academia Flooring)to friends and neighbours.

When my two-year-old roof began to leak around the chimney, I tried to contact the roofer who had done the job and "guaranteed" it. He was nowhere to be found. I contacted Gord at Academia who sent his team promptly to do the job properly. Instead of just patching it, they replaced it. I was most impressed with their meticulousness and professionalism. They certainly go the extra mile. Their prices are higher than some, but the quality is well worth it. I will certainly do business with Gord again in the future.

I called 4 contractors to come out and give me a quote on the repairs required for the marley roof.
Apparently, the job was not big enough for them to take the time and come out and look at it.
I called Gord Bailey, he came within 24 hours and completed the job with great professionalism and care.
