Bathroom renovation/Tiles

My husband and I were referred to Bill through our in laws who were very happy with their tile job Bill did. My husband had started the tear out of the shower and toilet and became ill. We called Clawsie Contracting. Bill came over and assessed the job. He advised us to remove the old floor(which was old, moldy and rotting). Bill was able to do this for us as well as rebuild the shower stall. He helped us choose beautiful black and white tiles with grey colored grout to compliment them. He showed us different patterns to choose from. We chose an awesome diamond design with regular tiles which saved us a lot of money not having to purchase expensive boarder tiles. The tiles wrap from the shower stall around the bathroom and create a backsplash behind the vanity and sink. We are extremely pleased with the outcome of our bathroom and the quality workmanship we received from Clawsie Contracting. Thank you Bill. The Edwards

Home renovation including flooring, painting

I had hired these folks in the past for a few small jobs in my home and they were great. However, I could not recommend them for a medium to large job. This renovation including a lot of painting and I initially thought to hire a separate painter, which I should have. While they can wield a paintbrush and roller, they don't fix any wall blemishes and the taping they did left me with lots of old colour edges. We had a disagreement about painting of the kitchen since I thought ceiling was included and they did not paint it - not willing to even split the difference - so make sure any contracts are extremely specific with your expectations. I wouldn't hire them again for my home.

Company Response

Barb,
After a long time thinking about your job, I feel that I must reply to some of your accusations about my business and the work we completed at your condo. I realise you had a concern about the ceiling NOT being included in the initial job. None of the other ceilings in your condo were painted, and you didn't have a problem with that, and the Service Agreement stated that we were painting the walls only. You purchased the paint for this, and you never purchased any ceiling paint, nor did you ever outline to us that you wanted ONLY the kitchen ceiling to be painted. It took you over a week to even realise the ceiling wasn't painted, and if it was the only ceiling to be painted, you would think it would be the first thing you would look for.
You also state that I was not even willing to meet you halfway on this, when in fact I offered to come in and paint the ceiling for an additional charge and you refused, stating to me that I should have included it in the original job.
You also never pointed out any of the concerns over the painted edges or any blemishes, and in fact told me everything was fine in regards to the painting of the walls. How am I to know that problems exist if you don't tell me about them until after you post a review.
Lastly, you failed to post all of the extras that my business gave to you during the renovation(taking your moving boxes down to the garbage bin, removing wire shelving and disposing of them, filling the holes in the walls where the shelving was and installing a new light fixture for you).
You also failed to mention that you gave my business 2 weeks to do the job before you were going to move in, and then proceeded to move in at the start of the second week, leaving us to rush to complete a 2 week job in just over 1 week. We came in over a weekend to accomodate you and try and get the job completed as soon as possible.
In your comments, you tell everyone to "make sure any contracts are extremely specific", and ours is, especially about the walls being painted, and not the ceilings, but you still took offense to that.
I am sorry that we couldn't maintain a working relationship after this latest renovation, as you have used my business numerous times before and been extremely happy with us and called us back for many other jobs.

Bathroon renovation

We hired Clawsie Contracting to do a second renovation for us. This time it was an existing basement bathroom, with some moisture issues. And with an older home and any renovation project, there were a few unexpected surprises once the work started. Bill ended up having to repair the concrete floor under the old shower and replace a framed wall due to mold problems. He was very reasonable with pricing the unforeseen work and fixed the problems in a short period of time.

Also - during the rebuilding phase - Bill showed much more concern than I did about how solid the new walls and base were going to be for the custom shower that was going in. He wanted to do it right the first time and not have to return to repair broken tiles or grout lines.

Due to his concern and effort, we now have a new huge custom shower stall - tiled floor to ceiling - and a basement bathroom that is no longer an eyesore or embarrassemnt.

He was also very helpful with tile layout and arrangement ideas. In fact, I trusted him enough that I let him decide some of the final décor tile placement. His choices were much better than my simple layout attempts.

Custom showers and bathrooms are one of his specialties. I look forward to using my new shower stall every morning when I wake up.

Thanks Bill,

Deck and Front Hallway

I hired Clawsie Contracting to redo my back deck. Bill was very thorough in his work and I was so pleased with the quality that I hired him a few months later to tile my front hallway. Once again, I was very happy with his workmanship. Now I'm ready to renovate my main bathroom and I'm hiring Clawsie Contracting again to do the work.

Porch, deck and stairs

In addition to building the porch, deck and stairs at a reasonable price, Bill added some great finishing touches which I love. It was more than expected and I would definitely hire Clawsie Contracting again.

Bathroom Tiling

I hired Bill Clawsie from Clawsie Contracting to put up tiles in both of my washrooms. The two washrooms were right next to each other, with the tubs being right next to each other seperated by a wall. The wall had tiles on both sides - over time (35 years), the tiles fell off and the wall started deteriorating. Bill was recommended highly to me by my landlord, so I called him and he came down within a couple days of my call to give me a quote. It was a very reasonable quote, and he was able to start working soon after. When the initial work started it soon became apparent that this was going to be a much bigger job than expected since the whole wall would have to come down and be completely rebuilt. The rebuilding of the wall was just as much work as putting up the tiles and Bill did all of this at the price of the original quote. After all of the work was done the washrooms looked great. I would definetely recommend Bill to any of my friends who need renovations done in their homes. In the future I will definitely be calling him if any other work is needed.

basement renovation

That is just how I would describe our experience with Bill and the work he did in transforming our unfinished basement into a lovely, functional basement. When we were looking around for contractors to complete our basement, Bill was one that stood out for us. He gave us his time to fully evaluate our basement needs, which included a 3 peice bathroom, living room, laundry/furnace room, and a bedroom. His ideas of what we should do, along with our ideas gave us a vision we could look forward to. He was on the jobsite everyday until it was completed, bringing in the proper people to help him along the way. His work and the work of his helpers were fantastic. Our basement was always kept clean at the end of the day and the finished product was exactly as we had envisioned it from the start. If Bill isn't too busy, please book him for your renovation, and I know you won't be disappointed. Thank you Bill...we'll be calling you for our next reno.

Bathroom renovation

I recently hired Bill from Clawsie Contracting to renovate my bathroom. I had no idea what to expect, as I have never had a renovation of this size to do, but Bill was always helpful with ideas of what I should do and how it would look. Clawsie Contracting took my old bathroom and made it into something wonderful. Bill's ideas for the tiling on the floor and the design of the tile placement in the shower area were great. I love the new shower controls and vanity so much. The work areas were always kept clean, and Bill even vacuumed the areas leading to the bathroom(something I didn't expect).
Thank you Bill for your ideas and support.
If you want someone to renovate a room in your home, call Clawsie Contracting and ask for Bill. You'll be as happy as I am when it's completed.

Front porch and new deck

I initially hired Bill to rebuild my front porch, after Bill provided a very reasonable quote. The quality and workmanship on the front porch were outstanding. Since I was very satisfied with his work on my front porch, I again hired Clawsie Contracting to demolish a mudroom at the back of my house, and replace it with a deck, and to install a wooden fence. Bill handled everything from demolition, to building/installing the new deck and fence, to full cleanup of the work area. Again, I was very pleased with the final result - Bill went out of his way to ensure the look and design of the back deck exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend Clawsie Contracting for great workmanship, and reasonable prices.

Kitchen Renovation

In August of 2008, we took on a major renovation of our small kitchen. There were many problems that needed to be fixed: plumbing and electrical; leveling the floor; heating; water/air venting; how to fit everything we wanted into the small space we had. The existing kitchen had to be torn out and replaced -- wiring, cabinets, the walls and the floor. We spent a lot of time finding the right contractor to do the work. We hired Bill Clawsie of Clawsie Contracting for several reasons. He was personable and easy to talk to. He listened to our ideas/concerns and was very clear about what his plans to address them would be. He gave us a written quote and a written contract with flexible payment options. We received the quote and contract in lots of time and we were able to review and change both to suit our needs. Bill did everything that he said he would do. He even did a few small extras without changing his price. He planned out his work carefully, keeping us informed of his plans and progress. He was flexible when issues arose. We had to get the window company back to fix a crooked window. Bill and another contractor, (who was installing new roof shingles), worked together to get the new kitchen air vent installed. We tore the old kitchen apart and Bill put it back together. He leveled the floor, installed ceramic tile, insulation and drywall; put in our new cabinets and dishwasher; fixed the plumbing and venting. And he did a great job with all of it. Our new kitchen is great! Thanks to Bill, the whole project was a success. Steve from Milton.
