Plumbing

This was a re-piping job to replace polybutylene pipes. JJ's Web site had a thorough explanation of the poly-b disaster, so I called him. Well before the pipes he replaced the main pressure relief valve right away, a good safety move. The re-piping was done in three days and included some smart on-the-spot routing. Justin is detail-oriented and was very particular about cleaning up at the end of each day. I had to pester him a few times about start dates, which is what happens when high quality work is in demand. Price was slightly lower than another well-regarded plumber, and came in a bit below estimate as Justin found some efficiencies along the way. He also gave valuable advice about other plumbing matters.

Broken water line into the house. Justin came the next morning and worked for a full day in the pouring rain to install a new line from the street.

We discovered the water poring into our basement crawl space just after midnight. The city workers came to shut off the water at the street then I called Justin at JJ's. He came promptly the next day and took care of everything. He organized a hose connection with our neighbors so we had water again. He brought in a machine to dig through all types of rocks and concrete, installed the new water line and even fixed a leaky bathroom faucet that was driving us crazy. The final cost included removal of the waste material he had to dig up under the front lawn. He was friendly, prompt and efficient. I would recommend him to any plumbing or drainage task.

Hey Bob, it was a pleasure to finally meet you, as up until then we had only talked on the phone from previous jobs. It was crazy to see some of the stuff that was buried in your yard. Total concrete removed was 568KG!!! and that doesn't include your new pieces of landscape.... lol, That one rock must easily weigh atleast 800lbs alone! It's no wonder the main water line broke, the excavator was barely able to pull it out of the hole and it was sitting right over top of the break. I am happy we were able to help and that everything is now working properly. It was a pleasure talking with and doing business for you, remember, if you have ANY questions regarding anything please do not hesitate to call.

Plumbing - toilet plugged, shower drain problem

I have had a few negative plumbing experiences so found some positive reviews on HomeStars for JJ's which led me to contact them. I found Justin to be fair and polite, good at communicating an assessment of the problem with possible fixes and associated costs. I was apprised throughout the process of what was being done and why, They were thorough and knowledgeable and made lots of suggestions about future maintenance. Matt was resourceful in finding an alternative which saved us both time and $. We would definitely use them again. They come highly recommended!

Hey Frank, thank you for writing us a review, it means a lot! We are happy to be able to help and it was a pleasure meeting you. I was rather impressed myself that Matt was able to think outside of the box and come up with an alternative solution to help save you money and avoid cutting open the ceiling in your kitchen. Even better, now you can use the clawfoot tub that you haven't been able to for quite some time... now maybe you can get your bathroom back and the kids can have their own as well ;0) It was nice as well to be able to see such a classic toilet in your powder room on the main floor, not very often we come across those anymore!

Replace shower valve and gasket

Approx a year ago, our stand up shower broke and water continued to leak from the shower head. We learned that the shower system (valve and gasket) was discontinued. JJ Plumbing kept us informed of their progress in locating an after market valve and gasket and gave us reasonable options for replacing the system. At the end, my wife and I decided to replace our entire system. To complicate issues, at the time we were new parents to a 3 month old daughter. JJ Plumbing was great. Justin provided great customer service while the young kid (a licensed certified plumber....I think his name was John) replaced our entire valve and gasket system to our shower. His workmanship was evident. His precision from cutting out the dry wall, to refitting and re-welding the pipes, to carefully tapping out the tiles to fit a new shower leaver, and to retesting the showers with my presence made all the difference in our confidence with this company. They were sensitive to us being new parents. Our house is a brand new built home and this particular plumber was meticulous with his work and he took great consideration in cleaning up any mess - leaving the work area virtually mess free. We would've wrote positive comments here a year ago but being new parents never gave us a chance to do it. We recently received a Xmas card from JJ Plumbing. My wife and I were really impressed in the time and effort and customer service they provided to us. My wife and I are professionals and our jobs demand high expectations. Naturally, when it comes to our personal life, we hold the same expectations with those we hire to fix our problem. Based on the workmanship we received, I would recommend JJ Plumbing to my friends and anyone looking for good quality plumbing work. Gary

Hey Gary, thanks for taking the time to write us a review! it means a lot. As a father of 4 I definitely know what it is like to be busy and appreciated where you and your wife were coming from. It was a pleasure to be able to help and do our best to keep everything as stress free as possible. Let's face it anytime an unexpected cost arises, it's always a stressful, especially with a new baby and going through the first few months of being a sleepless walking zombie. We are just happy to be able to help ease the stress of these times. As always if you have ANY questions regarding anything please do not hesitate to call... and again, Thanks for taking the time out of your busy day to write us this review, it means a lot and definitely helps future customers weed out the good companies from the bad. Have a wonderful day, hope the family is having a great start to 2013!

Plugged Kitchen sink, Water stain in basement bedroom

Noted enlarging water stain in the basement bedroom, that started to drip. At the same time, kitchen drain got plugged.

I sent an email via on line contact on Sunday, and got a prompt response giving me some advice to hold off til Monday or Tuesday to save the Emergency call out fee.

When Justin came out on Tuesday, he promplty discovered the cause of the basement leak was not some massive pipe break ( which gave us nightmares about potentially massive reno costs to tear up ceiling drywall and replacing pipes), but a faulty connection to an upstairs shower drain.

He also showed my wife how to easily unplug the kitchen sink in the future as it was likley to recur given the type of pipes that were used, but talked us out of changing it as the costs would be significant.

We also dealt with John in Jan 2012 to fix plumbing related back up of laudary machine loctaed in the same bathroom. Again a result of improper drainpipe installation by the same "handyman".

Both John and Justin were great to deal with and gave us honest and straightforward advice that we could trust.

We will defuinitely continue to use and recommend their services in the future

Hey Angelo, it has been a pleasure to meet you and your family and be able to help you out with your plumbing issues and am glad that we were able to ease your worries and give you the peace of mind needed. We are happy to be able to give you real honest advice as this is what has earned us the reputation that we have been able to build thus far. We are not in this to make as much $ as we can on each job, but instead to gain loyal, lifetime customers! We would rather have you feel confident recommending us to friends and family then to make the extra money, besides we still have to sleep at night too ;0)

Install new boiler, new hot water tank and re-connect basement heating

I decided to use JJ for installing my new heating system because of the great reviews from HomeStars and the helpful options the estimator gave me. It was to be a 3 day project. In the first day , a crew of 4 turned up and they worked a full day. They were going to return the next day to finish off the hot water tank but only 1 person showed up did as much as he could. On the third day, the crew turned up at 5 PM (supposed to be noon) and worked till 10 PM to get us hot water. They returned the following Tuesday to finish off the work. Unfortunately, the installation did not pass the city's safety inspection. Another appointment was made for JJ to correct the deficiencies but the crew did not show up. Eventually the problems were corrected the following day and passed the safety inspection. The whole thing took over 2 weeks to complete. It was rather frustrating for me because I had to keep reorganizing my day each time they did not show up. However, once the crew showed up, they were very professional, friendly and worked very hard. Their work was tidy and kept damage to the basement wall to a minimum. They cleaned the carpet before they left which was good. The heating system is working well. In summary, JJ would have got a much better review if they had been more punctual.

Hey Michael, Thank you for taking the time to write us a review, I appreciate the honest review as it helps us to learn from previous mistakes and how to improve for future customers. I do sincerely apologize that I had to take a few guys off of the second day for emergency calls and that I was not personally involved more on this project for I was busy on the extreme home makeover volunteer project for a family in need around the same timeline and probably had a little too much of my time devoted to this project. The project was originally discussed to take from Tuesday to Friday, and was completed and ready for inspection. I do sincerely apologize for us being late on day 3 for as you know we were stuck on an emergency call for a building that had flooded. It is my understanding that whether it was one of the guys working on the Job or myself personally, that you were made aware of tardiness prior to us arriving late everytime. As for the failed inspection, even though it was for very minor things, like cobwebs in the cold air intake, I do take full responsibility for us not triple checking everything with a fine tooth comb to ensure that you did not have to endure the frustration of having to wait the additional week for the second inspection to be completed. I do sincerely apologize for the frustration you had to endure, unfortunately this is the busy season and clearly we have taken on too many projects in too short of a time line and need to begin hiring atleast 2 more plumbers to help with our current work load to ensure that future customers do not have to go through the same frustrations that you did. I am happy to see that the shampooing of the carpet was appreciated, however you still should not have had to endure the frustrations that you did and we SINCERELY apologize for this. I do however appreciate your understanding with me through our discussions and that you handled the situations very well given the circumstances and I really appreciate your professionalism and understanding as well!

I also REALLY appreciate the honest feedback as this was quite the reality check for us as well. Have a great day Michael, I will be in touch soon to discuss everything with you further.

Hey Lavinia, it was a pleasure talking with you and I am glad to hear that Jon was able to help fix the toilet. I understand it can be quite annoying trying to sleep with the sound of running water, not to mention the amount of water wasted from such an issue. Thank you very much for taking the time out of your day to write us a review! We are just happy to be able to help!

Plugged Pipe

My husband and I moved into our new home 2 weeks ago and promptly realized the use of the washing machine caused a small pool in our basement. I called JJ's on a Monday morning, after the appliance repairman informed me the problem was with a clogged pipe, and not with my washing machine - the service was scheduled for the following day. John was on time, very pleasant, and fixed the problem in a timely fashion. We have some additional work that needs doing and have scheduled him to return this Saturday. We're pleased to have found such a great company for our plumbing needs.
