Home Renovation

Will give Reiner another 10/10 to add to the other reviews.

My first home purchase was a 4plex. I am doing an extensive reno to two of the units that would become my living place and future rental apartments down the road.

5 months after closing, I was still without a building permit although coming close to signing with a GC. I went from being a renter to organizing a large construction project. I did not feel good about things. I came across Reiner and figured I had nothing to lose and set up a meeting. We met at the house and after listening to him, it was a no brainer to use his services. His experience as a former GC was easily palpable. That I was way over my head became obvious. He pointed out the contract I was planning on signing was GREATLY in favour of my selected GC being highly front loaded, without a holdback and without any real detail.
After hiring him, we started off trying to get my selected GC to make the necessary changes. When that didn't happen, we started over.

Reiner got more done in 3 weeks than I had managed in months. It is clear he enjoys his work and it seems easy as 2 plus 2 for him.

I realize Reiner gets involved with Renos at various stages. Thankfully, this was before work got started in my case. His approach with my home was to define the scope of the work in as much detail as possible so that all costs are in the contract and there are less surprises during the reno which are inevitably more expensive at that point. He achieved this by getting a separate contract for the demolition to identify issues that needed to addressed. This worked out well. He got his hands dirty with regards to existing permit drawings and discovered: 1) A beam in new kitchen was structurally not feasible and suggested a much better design. 2) Engineer did not actually enter my home! 3) Determined that plans to remove dry wall to expose brick would lower fire rating. (to name a few)

An excellent design suggestion was made to install a new staircase that will lead to a much better layout. Other practical advice was given from his perspective as a landlord knowing that my renovated space would be future rental units.

If one is has no background in construction, you are forced to take the word of the GC, architect etc. on everything. There is great value in having Reiner in the picutre acting as a medium and levelling the playing field.

Communication is also excellent as emails are generally returned in no time.

Renovations are costly and hiring a consultant may seem like just another expense. However, the service Reiner provides is invaluable. I have no doubt his oversight to this point will lead to cost savings, better final product, and a smoother renovation without my reaching into my pocket constantly for surprises.

Things are finally underway with my renovation and I have a level confidence that I would never have obtained doing it on my own.

If you are planning a renovation, give Reiner a call as your experience will be as satisfactory as the other reviewers here.

Settled dispute with a Contractor asking for more money

I heard this great saying by an unknown author that states, "PEACE COMES NOT FROM THE ABSENCE OF CONFLICT, BUT FROM THE ABILITY TO COPE WITH IT." Mr Reiner Hoyer of The Reno Coach, was VERY instrumental in helping me to cope with a conflict that I had encountered with my Contractor. A month after the job was completed, he said that I owed him almost $10,000 more on top of the $50,000 I had already paid him. As well, he was looking to collect Gst on the $50,000, which had been included in our orginal agreement, therefore already paid. I asked for an invoice showing what he did for the $50,000, as well as justifying how I could have ended up owing him so much more money. After a lot of smooth talk, bullying, and threats of legal action by the Contractor, I decided to look into what my options and rights were. That's when I came across to look into The Reno Coach website. I called, and Mr Reiner Hoyer came to my house the next day, at NO COST, to evaluate the work that had been done, as well as go over what little paper work I had had from the Contractor. He felt that I had a good case against NOT owing the Contractor anymore money. Mr Hoyer has been in this business a very long time, and maintains a very good reputation within this industry; So much so, that in court cases he is considered an "expert witness", which means his evaluations of a job holds a lot of weight in a court of law. He made me aware of the MANY laws that are out there to protect me as a consumer, as well as the laws that had been broken by my Contractor. From that day on, Mr Hoyer dealt with the Contractor directly. He reviewed all the paper work, and met with Contractor at my house, so that they could go over all the work that had been done. Finally, after weeks of going back and fourth, the dispute was resolved, and I ended up NOT owing the extra money. Thank goodness for people out there like Reiner Hoyer, who is not only aware of laws that are put into place that protect all consumers and contractors alike, but he also has a very good working knowledge of the construction industry, as such, he knows the market value of jobs either being sourced and/or that have completed. As a consumer, I would STRONGLY recommend using The Reno Coach. It's the best money I have ever spent!!! So, if you or anyone you know of, is having ANY difficulties what so ever with a contrator or a quote, please check out The Reno Coach at www.The-Reno-Coach.com. You will not be disappointed!!!

What could this company do to improve their services?
Nothing, they already do everything right :)
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Get all quotes and agreements in writing, and get more then one estimate. There are laws out there to protect consumers from being over charged. Until using the services of The Reno Coach, I had no idea that these types of laws even existed. If I'm ever to do house repairs/renovations again, I will use The Reno Coaches services again, to make sure that the quote/quotes are fair with today's market and trade prices.

condo townhouse renovation

We bought this small condo house and wanted to do some renovation. As first home buyers, we had no idea where to start, and were afraid of those horrible stories dealing with unprofessional contractors might happen to us.
Luckily, we found Reiner via Homestars. After our first meeting, we were so impressed by his experience and knowledge. He helped us from the very beginning to the end. He screened contractors for us, helped us to decide which contractor to choose, kept us within our budget and was able to point out things we should be aware of as we walked through the process. He is patient, listens to what you say, and gives out solutions when any issues come up. We feel confident through the whole process knowing that someone professional and reliable is here looking out for us. Having his "cloud" around, saved us stress, time and money.
We highly recommend The Reno Coach to anyone. They make your job completely hassle free for you!
Had we known the service before we bought the house, we would have Reiner walk through the house with us before we give out the offer. knowing what to expect would save us time and money, and help us to decide whether it is the right one to buy.
Again, thank you Reiner. You've done an exceptional job!

Complete condo reno

Reiner helped me to breathe new life into an older condo with exceptional bones. The result: a custom, classic urban loft with charm to spare!

When I started the process, I couldn't even get a contractor to call me back to give a quote and I tried many on homestars. It seems many contractors don't like working on condos. If it wasn't for Reiner, I wouldn't even be out of the gate.

I recommend Reiner to anyone who wants a pro to be on your side and help you achieve the best possible results with the fewest headaches.

Take a look at the before and after pics. The results speak for themselves.

Home Renovation, kitchen, bath, floors...

The first time we renovated we tried to do it on our own. It cost us almost double to fix the mistakes that had been made to our home not including the legal bill that came along with hiring, what we now know, was a very shady company. Reiner helped us a great deal then. We just bought another home, we consulted Reiner again, he was thorough, knowledgeable, honest and very effective. His inside knowledge of the business has saved us time and money with absolutely not surprises.

Insurance Claim Dispute Basement Renovation, and other.

Our insurance contractors provided us with unsatisfactory workmanship in our basement and various areas of our home. This caused us months of hassle and grief trying to campaign for ourselves. Luckyily, we found Reiner who was able to advocate on our behalf by challenging the Insurance Company's contractors. His knowledge of the industry and
his experience was instrumental in helping us receive the settlement that we deserved.

House reno

We were in the middle of our first floor renovation when our contractor at the time pulled a fast one on us and left us in a mess(wont go into details of that as its irrelevant to The Reno Coach review)Its not enough to say that we were shocked and stuck!
I heard of Reiner from The Reno Coach trough a friend who used him before for his own house renovation and raved about it.Gave him a call and our nightmare was over!!Reiner took over a project and had everything done on time and budget! The first floor in our house is finaly done,we have moved few walls around, created an open concept, redone our kitchen and put a skylight in our hallway.Reiner was so confident, organized and comforting, especialy after our bad experience with the first contractor. We cant say enough about his professionalism. We highly recomend him for your next house renovation!

Home Renovation

The project was a complete home renovation, which essentially meant tearing everything down to the wall and re-building the inside. The project was done on time and largely on-budget, even with some relatively major changes about a third of the way through. The contractor Reiner suggested and that I picked was very competent and easy to work with. The door and windows I bought from Reiner make the house (along with the kitchen). All in all Reiner removed all the stress and worry usually associated with these kind of projects and allowed me to focus on my work and life instead of the project. Highly recommend Reiner's services without any hesitation.
