Big project

I have hired Captain Electric for 2 separate jobs. The first one was just to replace an electric panel a year ago. It was an emergency job, and they were very kind to help me with same day service.

This review is for my second time hiring them. This project was for the following: upgrading to a 200amp electrical panel, installing 4 pot lights at the front of the house, installing a metered collar transfer device (allows you to plug a generator in to power the house), wiring a brand new detached garage including an EV charger, pot lights outside, LED lights inside and 8 outlets, upgrading a washroom receptacle to be GFCI, replacing a couple of receptacles in the house. Upgrading an outdoor receptacle to be GFCI.

Diane was my main contact in the office, she is really easy to work with and helpful for scheduling.

What I really like about this company is they have enough staff to send 4-5 electricians over and be finished in less than a day, instead of one person coming everyday for a week. I had a lot of projects so mine took 2 days over 1-2 months.

I also really like how they talk to you about where you want potlights or receptacles, etc placed and explain some advantages or disadvantages of placement that you may not be aware of. The crew never rushes you.

The crew is very professional and they really know what they are doing. I ask a lot of questions and all of the electricians really take the time to explain things to you, which as a consumer I really appreciate. I also strongly believe that when you don't know a lot about a subject and someone is able to explain it to so you totally understand it that means they have a full understanding of the subject. This is exactly what happened. Zac (who was the electrician in charge of my project) really taught me A LOT about electricity.

For my second appointment, I actually had to cancel the original date and rebook it (because my trusses were delayed for my garage due to covid-and you can't wire a garage and make it live with no roof on it). Diane was really good to move things around on their end and rebook me for the following week. (I also kept her updated with what was going on at my house and advised her that this may happen well before).

Now for the unpleasant part. This company is expensive, like really expensive. If you are looking for the cheapest electrician, don't bother getting a quote from them. However, I firmly believe you pay cheap and you pay twice. You get a crew that shows up when they say they will, with neat and clean uniforms and id badges. They leave no trace that they were even there. Every job was done perfectly. Most importantly, they are all licensed electricians, and Zac produced proof of his license without me asking for it. Also, they have an excellent warranty so you are buying piece of mind. Another thing that was really nice was that Zac 'threw in' 2 little bonus pieces of work for me that came up the day of service, that would have cost me about $300-400 more. It was very kind of him to do this. In reality, it was probably $20 of parts and 15 min of labor, but that's not the point...as a customer it made me feel very good that he would do that especially when I had already agreed to pay for it...he surprised me with that when we were going over my final bill. I was very happy to save that money. It really shows their high level of customer service. Again, you get what you pay for.

I am very happy with all the projects Captain Electric completed, and will definitely use them again in the future. A big thank you to Diane, Kiera, Elise and all the ladies in the office. As well as Zac, Kevin, Bronson and Jackson (My apologies I know I have forgotten one electrician but I can't remember his name).

You can see photos for my garage and house outdoor lighting.

Fantastic Service

I cannot recommend Capt Electric more highly. From the easy and professionalism of booking the service to the job being done. Kevin and team did a great job, not only with the job (installing ceiling fan where the support was sketchy) but with inspecting other areas of concern (with no cost) and giving us an estimate. The estimate came with a pro/con view of what was best. No hard sell and honest advice. Yes, the price for jobs is set and not open to negotiation but no worries, it was very reasonable. No gauging here and honest, professional job. Highly recommend!!!

Thank you Zavad. We want our clients to be as informed as possible. With the increase in Electric Vehicle Charging, and many people adding Hot Tubs and Swim Spas, there is a need to consider future Electrical requirements carefully. We look forward to helping you in the future when you need us.

Installation of bathroom exhaust fans

The real deal. True professionals. Zac and his team installed three new bathroom exhaust fans in our 100+ year old house which was not easy. They coordinated everything - the permit, the roofer. They showed up when they said they would. They did a masterful job and left the place spotless. And they were the nicest guys. 100% would hire them again.

Backyard Receptacle: Diagnosis & Repair

The receptionist was very client-centric and friendly. Tim (the electrician) was on time, professional and very helpful.

My backyard receptacle had no power. He found a a wire under the deck that led to a tripped GFCI receptacle. The GFCI receptacle is in a bad location which can only be accessed by crawling under the deck. He found the problem and fixed it.

Overall, I am very happy with Captain Electric and will use their services again.

The best!

We have used Captain Electric at two separate homes and properties, both suffering from handy-man-itis and ridiculously dangerous wiring. We were knew to home ownership and the cost of being able to sleep well at night was daunting. You will get many friends telling you to hire their brother-in-law or friend because they are an electrician - and they may very well be BUT, I stuck to my instincts and hired Captain Electric. As a client, there are things you don't see of know. While electricians may be running out of wire at this time, this company's owner was experienced enough to preemptively order wire, so we didn't have that problem. We hired them to fix our ailing cottage/home in stouffville, then called them again (like the calvary) to help us make safe a victorian farmhouse. The crew had a daunting electrical challenge and while we've experienced other contractors' woe-is me, complain and moan attitudes, these guys were far more focused and inspired by solutions, and plying their traded like experts. Really they were. The guys worked tirelessly in terrible heat. They communicated with each other and with us. And their admin are a pleasure to deal with, partient and treat their clients like family. they were polite and cleaned up their mess and were masterful at their jobs. Their certification and reputation will increase your investment in your home. While bob the wire jockey at the pub will come in and hook up new wiring to old dangerous wiring for a few bucks less, stop and think before making that call. Home inspectors know this company and trust them. You WANT AND NEED this company!!! Thank you, Ryan, Dan and all of you, sorry if I haven't listed you, but we're very grateful.

Electrical for Pool Heater

Zac and Sergio arrived right on time and looked at what need to be done and got to work. Before starting Zac went over the cost of the job and told me that an electrical permit would be pulled for me and the cost of that. They started the work and got the pool heater electrical working. The work area was left clean and tidy.
We have used Captain Electric many times and they are very professional, on time and conscientious. Permits are always filed and it makes me very comfortable. If an electrician will not pull a permit run away.
See you again soon.

Lighting and outdoor outlet installations;

We have had Captain Electric to our home several times over the last several years. They are always professional, friendly and helpful and we have had no issues with their work. Work has been done to code and with appropriate permits. Kevin, Jackson and Bronson did our most recent job to our complete satisfaction. Kevin has been here numerous times and is a pleasure to work with. While their prices are not the cheapest, we have never felt they were out of line for the quality and reliability of the work and the company. We highly recommend Captain Electric, and Kevin!
