Excessive Noise and Vibration from Gas Water Heater

We recently arranged for the installation of the Bradford White (BW) Residential Power Vent Gas Water Heater. Online BW states the heater features the Fasco AquaVENT MAX which is the quietest blower motor in the industry. On the day after our installation we encountered a significant issue from the blower and vent, with excessive noise and vibrations magnified by a resonance, which could be clearly heard in the family room and kitchen. BW provided a new blower under warranty and technical support from both Canada and the USA. The HVAC contractor tweaked the installation of the vent. We were still left with a 65-70 db measured noise level on the main floor. BW claimed the contractor installed the vent incorrectly and the contractor stated the issue was with the blower. Our rating for the BW vented gas hot water heater reflects our mixed experience with the product and the customer support provided.

Poor Quality Control and Inconsistent Part Numbers

We made a mistake by choosing a Bradford White (BW) gas hot water tank even though our contractor recommended an AO Smith. The blower on the tank was defective when it was taken out of the box. In addition a USA BW warranty department staff person claimed the blower had been substituted by a third party since the part number on the unit did not agree to their parts list. We then noticed that the part number on our gas valve also did not agree with the BW parts list. A significant amount of time was then spent to investigate if we had been sold a fraudulent tank. Today we spoke with the Manager of the Warranty department who explained that the part numbers on the factory units can vary depending on their manufacturer and the numbers on their parts list should be used to order a replacement. That important information was not known by her staff and there was no disclosure in their parts list to explain. Our Cdn distributor also spent a considerable amount of time trying to determine how to order a replacement for the defective blower. We just spent $4k last week to purchase and install this tank and every time the tank turns on, we can feel the vibration from the motor throughout the whole house.
