Mountainview homes seems to get really good reviews. So my experience shows that depending on where you build, which trades are involved and whether the site supervisor actually does anything to monitor your home build can affect the outcome greatly.

It is quite clear to me that the progress of my home build was not monitored or verified during construction by the site supervisor. Even the wrong sheathing material was used (wood instead of rigid foamboard which I upgraded to). I had to catch the mistake myself. There was poor cosmetic workmanship on the exterior which was not even corrected before we moved in (like buying a scratched car). We have had heat runs in the house which weren't even connected or were falling off leaking air throughout the basement (thank god we didn't have them finish it). A very important cold air return which led no-where and is the cause of our warm media room. Nobody is verifying the work the contractors do. How hard is it to turn on the furnace fan and check the heat registers for air flow??? Should the homeowner find these deficiencies? It's true that Mountainview seems to be good at getting things remedied after the fact, but do I want the inconvenience of all the trades coming back to fix things that are so obvious (caulking which is so poor my 2yr old can do better). The site supervisor should be looking at the work of each trade at some level to ensure it was done right. Instead, it's clear that they just trust these trades to come in and do their thing (good or bad). So how do you get a quality home from Mountainview when the trades are dictating what you get rather than Mountainview? Beyond what I've mentioned and having built with a different builder in the past, I can tell you that Mountainview is a builder with very low "standards" for finishes and you get lured in with a low price only to find you have to pretty much upgrade everything to get to where other builders are. No energy star options are standard. Even the light bulbs which are the old incandescent are some cheap chinese brand. Bathroom fixtures are the cheapest you can get although this may vary depending on where they are building. In short, the house may look pretty or not from the outside, but don't be fooled. There is nothing special about Mountainview homes which should give you a good feeling about building with them. No homeowner should be finding these types of issues.

New Home

We bought and built our second Mountainview Home and both experiences were excellent. The staff was very accommodating to our needs and we were able to modify our floor plans o fit our family. Would definitely build #3 again with Mountainview Homes
