A few decades after our house was built, I discovered water leaking into the outside walls of the dining room and basement. I hired Way-Mar Siding to check the problem and they determined that this problem had a long history and was due to faulty construction when the house was first built. They discovered that the tar-paper was not installed properly above or below the mid-line flashing. The flashing did not extend far enough over each side of the windows and doors. The j-moulding used was really the wrong kind of moulding to use below the mid-line flashing. There was also no tar-paper on the very top portion of the east side of the house. All these problems did not allow pounding rain to drain properly outside of the tar-paper and the siding. As a result, the water was trapped inside the tar-paper, thus resulting in the rotting wood, and eventually leaking into our dining room and basement. My insurance wouldn't cover the $7,000 to repair the problem because the problem had its origins in the original construction. Despite several letters to Kenmore Builders, they refused to cover the costs of the repair even though it was clearly a problem with original construction. I therefore cannot recommend this builder.
