Exceptional company to work with - Impressive finished product

PDJ Shaw Flooring has a fabulous team and provided incredible service and selection. Very conscientious installers and hardwood refinishers. Thrilled with my refinished floors (that look brand new!) and carpets. Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone!

lAMINATE FLOORING

Our experience with PDJ Flooring in Waterloo has been a totally negative one---from the slick initial conversation that ridiculed our request for bamboo flooring to the insistence that laminate would be the way to go for the below-grade, concrete floor in our family room. We are trusting folk, and they are experts in the flooring business, so we were convinced that this 'top grade' laminate by Shaw would be just right! That was our first mistake - the second was paying up front!! One installer was sent, when two were promised. The product looked cheap from the beginning (was this the same laminate that we had initially chosen?), but my hesitation when half the floor was laid was treated with scorn and rudeness. We could not speak with the owner when I requested to do so -- and the work proceeded. We disliked the look of the floor from the outset - and when we put our furniture back in place, much of it was wobbly. The floor was obviously uneven -- but since it was there and was "the BEST" laminate for its price anywhere, we hoped it would 'settle' in time, or that our rug would mask the lumpy , wavy surface. A few months in, a large area lifted (bubbled up?). The installer was sent to lift and loosen. Soon after another large area bubbled - same installer sent to repair - the salesman accompanied him to tell us that this was our fault because of humidity issues in our home. This was news to us. This underlay was supposed to be the BEST moisture barrier ever made --so were our humidity levels so unusual? Despite requests for the owner to come and speak with us and walk over the floor , he refused to do either. We asked a local flooring installer (with the highest Homestar rating in KW) to come and walk over the floor, so that we would have an idea if our complaints were justified. He did so at no cost - and in his opinion they were. He wrote us a letter to this effect, which was completely rejected by PDJ because this person was not an "expert"! PDJ sent a Certified Inspector whose report we have, saying that the problems are not with the product, but with the Site and installation. PDJ then had this report "clarified" by this inspector. The subsequent letter disregards the above issues and refers ONLY to the quality of the flooring and the "moisture problem". We visited the PDJ office/showroom at one point, again in our effort to speak with the owner. We were treated rudely and dismissively. We are ashamed to have guests in our family room and always tell them who is responsible for this unattractive and lumpy floor. We strongly advise everyone to avoid PDJ Shaw Flooring!!

Hrdwood and carpet

We had PDJ install some wood and carpet in our home on a recommendation from friends and were very pleased with the whole process. They delivered on time and budget with no surprises.
Installers were great. (Nice to see a husband and wife team).
We will be using them again on our next flooring project.

Kitchen, Family room, front foyer

From the people in the showroom who gave knowledgeable advice to the installers who took great pride in their work, the team at PDJ flooring are fabulous. We had every confidence in the quality of service, especially with the installation of ceramic floor, hardwood floor and backsplash tiling. We would highly recommend this company.

Buyer Beware

The PDJ Shaw Flooring salesman in Waterloo is a slick player who will have you believing that only PDJ installs quality products professionally. Our end result looks amateurish to downright awful, with visible nail holes/impact marks, product cracking less than 2 months after installation, use of caulking to try to cover up errors, creaking and movement where there should be none, very poor fit-and-finish, and dubious quality of product overall. Furthermore, our entire house was covered in dust from the installer sawing boards outside while leaving the doors open, allowing wind to blow sawdust inside. Our floor looks like it was installed by a weekend warrior handyman with ZERO fine carpentry experience. Upon complaint, the same installer was sent out to correct problems of measurement and poor quality only to make things worse. Continued complaints resulted in repeated offers to send the same installer to "correct problems" and, ultimately, complete ignorance of our concerns. Excuses were made and, overall, the salesman made us feel like our concerns were inconsequential and/or a result of the "existing subfloor or layout". No attempt was made to send a different, experienced, installer to correct the amateurish errors. Interestingly, the SALESMAN did the measurement for our floors initially and is clearly completely unqualified to do so, as evidenced by the end result.

We contracted PDJ to do our job because we have friends whose wood floors were done by PDJ to very high standards. Although it seemed too pricey, we felt it was a good company based on what we had seen and heard. We even ignored the one other poor review on this site, thinking it was likely a one-off. We know now it wasn't. It is interesting to note that the installers of our friends' floor arrived in clean, clearly-labelled PDJ Shaw vehicles while our installers arrived in unmarked vans and vehicles. Was our job deemed less important and sub-contracted to an inexperienced installer? We'll likely never know. Our poor end result speaks for itself and we cannot wait until we have enough money to replace the mess by a qualified company with a solid reputation.

Please think very carefully about hiring PDJ Shaw Flooring and, above all, ensure you get guarantees in writing. Buyer beware: do not waste your time or hard-earned money on PDJ Shaw Flooring in Waterloo, Ontario.

Engineered flooring installed did not match the sample or sample board shown us when purchased. Owner and salesman unhelpful. Salesman rude. Buyer beware, you are on your own. Shaw flooring poor quality despite high end price. Shaw flooring is cheap looking and regret dealing with company. Contact me for pictures. Looks like a saloon floor.

Front Hallway Stairs

New flooring installed on stairs leading from front foyer to upstairs. PDJ was great in helping us to select laminate flooring that is so nice that it seems like hardwood floor! We really enjoyed working with this company and having them install the difficult stairs.
