After waiting 8 weeks (I was told it would be 6) I went to pick up my wingback chair to find it had been covered in the wrong fabric, with the clerk insisting that it was the fabric I had chosen. In fact it was their mistake, after a brief search, the fabric I had ordered was found sitting to the side with my name attached. I was shaken by this experience, but kept calm as I was told they would prioritize recovering my chair. After almost two weeks of hearing nothing I called and was chastised by the owner, David, for my impatience and told they weren’t making any money on my chair. I was appalled and told him that; he seemed to forget that this was not my fault. The mistake of covering my chair with the wrong fabric would have been forgivable had I been treated with respect and as a valued customer. When I finally brought my chair home, I found a ragged edge on the piping, a wad of fabric that hadn’t been properly pinned and poor fitting arm covers, not to mention small threads that hadn’t been cut off. I was disheartened, fed up and almost let it go, but after paying a premium price (no discount had been offered) I decided to bring these imperfections to their attention. Jean (owner) kindly agreed that they should fix these problems and I brought the chair back to the shop. Not only did they not bend over backwards to please me, but I was told that the shoddy workmanship was as a result of them rushing the job (the undoing and recovering of their mistake). What rush, it had taken 10 weeks. I will never ever set foot in that store again and would rather take a chance on a less known company. Not only did Gregg’s not live up to the claims on their website such as “The Gregg’s Promise” of “good value and friendly personal attention”, their “caring and knowledgeable staff put YOU first, offering a level of service second to none” and the statement “Gregg’s service transforms dreams into reality”, my dream was transformed into a stressful, time consuming and expensive nightmare. The chair is finally finished and I’m pleased, but Gregg’s was remiss in fulfilling “The Promise” during the process.
