backed up septic tank

When you have a septic backup, there can be many causes. Needless to say, you need to pump out the tank as an ongoing maintenance requirement. Assuming that you let it go too long between intervals (as many of us do) you risk serious side issues that can lead to catatrophic costs / repairs etc... Recently, we had a backup problem and called for service. We explained that the system had NOT been pumped out for about 10 years. The system was sized for about 7 occupants, but only 2 persons had been using it, so we figured it could handle it for a bit longer. We were clearly wrong but here's the issue with the contractor. The system had ROOTS grown into it and the 'tech' said he'd never seen anything like this. Apparently, I'm told by others that this is not uncommon. To make matters worse the tech was not able to clear the roots (he was in the wrong kind of truck) so we were left with a non-functional (blocked) system. The 'tech' was NOT able to offer any real technical expertise, so we ended up calling ANOTHER contractor to clear the roots out. They should at least TRAIN their techs to assist their clients! So far this problem has cost me $1,600.00 (another contractor was no better in figuring out the problem(s) & now I'm looking for another contractor to assess the situation and hopefully solve it satisfactorily.

If you just want a pumping service, OK - you can call them - but if you have a problem - I'd look elsewhere.

Approximate cost of services:
$350.00
