Snowblower and small engine repair
Horrible workmanship! Took my snowblower there in fall of 2007 to get the electric start fixed (gear was stripped and was grinding), also to get the drive gears fixed which were slipping and finally to get a new set of skids put on. Cost Me almost $150.00.
If the workmanship had been good, the price would have been fine.
By mid winter of 2007, the drive gears were slipping again (although not quite as bad). The skids they put on were meant for a different snow blower as they were orange (and my snowblower is green) and the holes in the skids were too big for the bolt so half the bolt falls through the skid hole.
I just fired up my snow blower for the 2008 winter season and was shocked to see that my electric start motor had not been bolted down properly when BJ's repaired it and it had fallen right off it's mount on the engine block and was hanging by it's electrical cord (brutal).
When I phoned BJ's and described all the problems I had, they said their warranty for workmanship was only good for 90 days. My response was, that the starter fell right off the blower and that's kind of extreme for poor workmanship. Also, 1 year later I was having to re-fix everything I had originally asked them to fix in the first place and that I wasn't going to keep spending $150 every year to re-fix all these issues.
At that point the BJ's rep told me I should probably take my snowblower somewhere else to get it fixed.
So my advice is to stay the heck away from these guys.
- Approximate cost of services:
- $150.00
- What could this company do to improve their services?
- Take pride in their work instead of hiding behind a 90 day warranty (especially in extreme cases where it was very poor workmanship).
- Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
- Get it fixed somewhere else.
