Mac Renovations Ltd

We had MAC Renovations expand our basement suite and it went very well-five-star work. We appreciated Derek's clear communication while planning the project. Kelley's management while the project was under construction and Collin's great carpentry work. We were also happy with the electricians lighting. We just love the dimmer lighting system. The plumber did a great job in our new laundry room. We were very happy with the finished basement it was exactly what we had wanted. If we do any new renovating, we will not hesitate to have MAC renovation LTD do it.

We have hired Mac Reno at least six times now for repairs and renovations on our house. Our top priority in choosing a contractor is good workmanship, because we dont want to deal with ongoing problems caused by cutting corners on a job. As long time residents of fixer-upper houses, we have plenty of experience hiring contractors for our home. In the past, we have occasionally dealt with less than stellar work, and it is not worth it to save a few bucks on your quote. But lately, we have been sticking with Mac Reno, and each time we hire them it adds to our confidence that we will hire them again. Professional and pleasant to deal with, and interested in helping advise you and also do the work to give you a quality result. The latest job they did for us was replacing and strengthening support columns under our 106-year-old house, as well as renovating a rodent-damaged crawlspace into a pleasant storage area. They have also built decks, rebuilt our front porch, and added and replaced exterior doors.

I hired Mac renovations to do a design and renovations within my house. They lead me to believe through the designing process that my project would be within my budget. Just as we were nearing the end of the designing process they quoted me three times as much which I was just shocked how they lead me on. They charged me in excess and withheld a majority of my deposit money. I would never recommend them to anyone unless you like snakes. Smooth and deceptive!

We approached Mac when we first thought about renovating our house, and their approach from the beginning was impressive and service oriented. We visited some of their current projects and were pleased with the quality of their work and their obvious good relationships with their clients. Blaise, and then our Project Manager, Derek Breen, helped us understand their process and looked for creative ways to solve the problems we wanted to address. Although we focused mostly on building a functional and beautiful kitchen that would overlook our back garden, their ideas and expertise led us to make numerous improvements throughout our house. We are very happy with the result. We moved out of the house for three months while they worked on it, and they returned us back to our house exactly on time. Throughout the many decisions we had to make during the project, Derek was an invaluable guide and problem solver. Overall, it was a pain-free and even enjoyable renovation, and we would highly recommend Mac to anyone.

​We moved from Vancouver to Victoria last year, into a house that needed a number of updates. After meeting with several firms, we decided to go with MAC. We were impressed with their professionalism and detailed proposal; they really listened to our needs and wants, and they seemed to really get our vision for our home. Over four months, MAC's contractors reconfigured and renovated our three bathrooms; created a great laundry/mud room; relocated closets; replaced windows and doors; raised ceilings and doorways; rebuilt a fireplace; and installed a gorgeous hardwood floor.

We particularly enjoyed working with with Derek Breen, our project manager - he understood both our desires and our constraints, and was invaluable in helping us make decisions that maximized the value of the space both for the way our family uses the space and for our budget. The MAC carpenters who were on-site daily were professional and friendly, and took time to make sure the house was tidy and liveable at the end of each day. Over the four months, we had many sub-trades in and out of the house - all of them were professional, friendly, and highly skilled.

I've lived through several renovations in the past, and this was by far the smoothest and most rewarding experience. I highly recommend MAC to anyone considering a renovation project - we'll definitely be using them again in the future!

My hobbit hole of a basement was beautifully transformed by this company into a place of which I can be proud. They were helpful in planning the space and came in on time and on budget (any overruns were of my own choosing). Any glitches (of which there were very few) were attended to immediately.
Blaise has put together a great list of service providers, all of whom were respectful and competent.
Can't recommend them highly enough!

We engaged MAC Renovations to assist in designing a bathroom renovation. The design team promised realistic computer drawings of what the bathroom would look like after renovations. The resulting drawings were of poor quality and inaccurate. Upon contacting the company representative, we received additional drawings which were of insufficient quality and which did not portray the walls and ceiling of the bathroom accurately. Thereafter, both this representative and Ed, the owner of the company, failed to respond to repeated attempts to contact them by telephone. MAC Renovations also failed to provide the requested higher quality drawings or a refund of the hefty fee we had already paid.

I would not recommend hiring MAC Renovations for design work. I have no information about the quality of their actual construction work.

Addendum July 2015: The owner's son contacted us to discuss the situation. He also delivered much better drawings which more accurately and precisely depict the result of renovation. As a result, we are substantially more satisfied with the design work produced by Mac Renovations and have increased our score. We also discussed the difficulties in communication with employees, and he assured us that this would be remedied.
