Garage door

I spoken with Andrew on the Phone regarding Garage door and installation..I gave him the size of the garage opening and he basically quoted me $1,000 including "everything" .. remote, removal of the old garage door, keypad, installation, garbage removal, etc..I even double check with him about what are included for the $1,000..and he said "everything"..so when he gets to my house he said that It will cost me more because he need to modify the door he gives me lots and lots of reasons that I should pay him $500 more..I told him that he Quoted me $1,000 and he should stick to his quote or leave..he ask me to pay him upfront but I refused and told him that I would give him the money once everything is fixed and working properly..he installed everything and it works but the thing is he claimed that the factory has no keypad in stock and he will install the keypad within the week..and he said he could not dispose my old garage door because he did a lot of work already and the payment is not enough..I called him about a week later and he said he got a major project going on and he has no time to drive to my area and he said he will try again but to no avail..its been more than two weeks and I have not heard anythng from him..hopefully he see this message and install my keypad for my garage..

Garage Door Installation

I saw a booth for InterUrban Garage Doors at a home show in downtown Vancouver. My husband and I decided to go with the company to have a new garage door installed. It took about 6 weeks to get the garage door. I had to keep calling them to find out if it was in yet. I kept having to talk to Andrew's wife - Dierde who is not helpful at all. Finally, after several calls, she told me that the door was in, but it was scratched on the top panel. This is what she could do for me - she could give us a different top panel with nice windows on it. Sure I said, it sounded much nicer than a plain old panel - and there was no extra cost for this. Finally, they showed up to do the install. I was so distracted by Andrew and his helper (they kept talking and talking) that I didn't ask to see the garage door closed (my bad, but not sure it would have made a difference anyways) After they left, I closed the door and noticed that the garage door is too big for the opening. My garage door closes but the top inch of the glass is hidden behind the framing of the garage door opening. I phoned and spoke to Andrew in mid May and he said he'd be out by the end of the month to "fix" it. It is now mid-August and I have yet to hear from him. I have called numerous times, leaving messages, sometimes not leaving messages as the voicemail is full. I would NOT recommend this company to anyone. I am truly disappointed in the service of this company and they are not professional at all.

Company Response

Garage Door Installation I saw a booth for InterUrban Garage Doors at a home show in downtown Vancouver. My husband and I decided to go with the company to have a new garage door installed.

The truth is, you chose a custom size and custom colour .You also chose the top model, a two inch insulated garage door. Most building materials that are custom ordered take at least six weeks.

It took about 6 weeks to get the garage door. I had to keep calling them to find out if it was in yet. I kept having to talk to Andrew's wife - Dierde who is not helpful at all. Finally, after several calls, she told me that the door was in, but it was scratched on the top panel.

In fact, the supplier did not send enough sections for your door. We demanded that they send another section a.s.a.p. Three days later a delivery truck arrived but they did not send your missing section. We did, however, have a section on hand that would complete your door. The section we had was glazed with very expensive etched acrylic glass. We did not want you to wait another six weeks for a replacement section, so we offered you this section at no additional cost. It was a three hundred dollar gift. You accepted the section and arranged for the door to be installed.

This is what she could do for me - she could give us a different top panel with nice windows on it. Sure I said, it sounded much nicer than a plain old panel - and there was no extra cost for this. Finally, they showed up to do the install. I was so distracted by Andrew and his helper (they kept talking and talking) that I didn't ask to see the garage door closed (my bad, but not sure it would have made a difference anyways)

The truth is, we took you outside to see the door. We pointed out that the window section was a little larger than we would prefer but we could crop the door from the bottom to adjust the height. This would make the door perfect. We explained that this process would be another full day of work and would cost an additional $300. You said you would discuss it with your husband. You accepted the door as it was installed. You paid the remainder of your order without hesitation.

After they left, I closed the door and noticed that the garage door is too big for the opening. My garage door closes but the top inch of the glass is hidden behind the framing of the garage door opening. I phoned and spoke to Andrew in mid May and he said he'd be out by the end of the month to "fix" it.

I did speak to you about the door. I said I would try to fit the job into my busy schedule. Unfortunately, at that time, my main installer disappeared and left me swamped. We regret that we were unable to do another contract for you. I did pass your number along to another garage door company.

It is now mid-August and I have yet to hear from him. I have called numerous times, leaving messages, sometimes not leaving messages as the voicemail is full. I would NOT recommend this company to anyone. I am truly disappointed in the service of this company and they are not professional at all.

The truth is, you DID speak to Deidre several times. You were so rude to her, she stop taking your calls.

Garage Doors and opener

In April, 2009, my husband and I negotiated a contract for 2 garage doors (Inter-Urban Garage Doors, Andrew B, 604-985-3667) and paid a deposit of $1200 (50%). The cheque was cashed 5 days later. The garage doors did not arrive the next week as promised, but instead, a month later the wrong set of doors were delivered to be installed. We sent them back and were told the correct ones would be reordered.

The short of it is, we have not received any product or services from this North Vancouver company and it is now 4 months later. Our calls are not picked up (unless I phone from a new phone number, like a friend's cell phone). Andrew B says he does not return deposits and will not respond to a variety of suggestions we have made for resolving this.

We have talked to the RCMP and Better Business Bureau. The best that they can suggest is small claims court, but it is pretty clear from my few conversations with the owner of this business that this process will not be successful. My impression is that even if our claim is successful, it doesn't guarantee that he will pay.

The two addresses this fellow gives for his business (listed on YellowPages, CanPages, weblocal.ca, homestars.ca, etc.) are not 'real' (my husband drove by and one is for lease and the other had an old fridge and motorcycle in it?), so we don't even have a correct mailing address for him. There is also an inactive phone number (604-983-9124)listed on some sites.

We initially found Inter Urban through one of the big home shows in Vancouver 2 years ago. Although we looked up the door manufacturer, we did not look up this company on the Better Business Bureau until we had the trouble. Unfortunately it looks like he's done this before. (The installer who brought the wrong doors actually commented that Andrew often tries to install cheaper doors when customers don't check carefully on delivery.)

It looks like I'll probably end up losing my $1200, but I'd like to limit how many more people Andrew misleads out of their money. It is not ethical for me to just let others go through the same thing.

Do you have any other ideas for us?
Thanks for your time.
