I'm shocked to see so many negative reviews as we had such a positive experience when we purchased our Excel home in Mahogany. The first time walking in the the show home we were casually greeted and not pounced upon like other builders.
We initially chose to build with Excel as they had the layout of home that we were after and the price point that we were willing to pay.
We had a great experience with the sales team girls that were very helpful, responsive and knowledgeable. We ended up purchasing our home with a guaranteed possession date which was however delivered on the very last day! The construction process from the initial check set meeting with the construction foreman was informative and thorough. The pre-board walk through did have a few issues but were brought to the attention of the foreman and were rectified. A few other issues were encountered along the build process but nothing that was a huge problem or that wasn't addressed in a timely manner by either the sales team or foreman. The pre-possession walk thru is usually done before possession day where you walk through the house and point out any issues or things that need fixing to your satisfaction before you actually take possession. On our possession day we did our pre-possession walk thru and orientation at the same time so we did not have a chance to nit-pick the house. This turned out to be okay as we didn't encounter any issues that should have been fixed before we took possession. I will admit that now that we have been in the house for just about 2 months there are still a few outstanding items that need to be completed but these are not deal breakers. ie the foundation still needs to be parged, the house was not pressure washed when we took possession so the stairs/shingles still have a lot of caulking drips on them.
The one thing I will mention is that the house is brand new, and such are the appliances, but we have already had an issue with our wall oven. It stopped working randomly and have already had to place a service call and get a part ordered. The washer shakes the entire 2nd floor, the dryer squeaks (which was classified as "normal operating noise" by the tech), and the microwave is not level as the door swings back hitting you in the head every time its open. Not deal breakers, but more so annoying with the time you need to spend to attend to these warranty appointments.
Overall we were very satisfied with the whole process from sales to possession. I will say that the back office didn't seem to be of much assistance and didn't really have much response to emails. The sales team and the construction foreman were really the stars for us.
