Century old sun porch

The original sun porch on our century home is both beautiful in its architecture and essential for us to store our bikes, gardening tools and pots surplus kitchen wares. While completing a separate repair of our clogged drains, the Yuillbuilt team noted a significant amount of rotted material and a foundation close to collapsing. The rotted material was replaced with pieces profiled to match, the downspouts were repaired and the structure was repainted on the exterior as well as the floor. It's now good for another 100 years!

Home office renovation

Yuill transformed our space into a beautiful functional space. He created lots of storage in drawers that are easier to access than cupboards. He has great ideas that help move the project along.

Toronto

One beautiful sunny summer afternoon in July, I received a phone call at my office informing me that a tree had fallen across our driveway and knocked out the "Hydro Mast" from the brick work of our home.
Before I rushed home, I called Yuill as I knew that he would be able to provide the advice required to have this situation rectified with minimal interruption. Upon arriving home, the fire department, police and Toronto Hydro were all there clearing the debris from the fallen tree which had landed mostly on the road but in so doing took our power line with it. Hydro ran a new line to our house but would not connect it until we had a new hydro mast installed. Yuill's team of experts arrived within hours to inspect the situation and then had a new hydro mast installed the next morning. The damage brick work was also repaired and by the end of the weekend all looks as if the damage had never happened at all.
Thank you Yuillbuilt and your fantastic team of trades. You guys literally came to our rescue!

North on Sixty Home Renovation - Summer 2017

Yuill walked us through an extensive (floor, ceiling, walls, stairs, fireplace, painting, etc) first floor home reno this past summer. It has been one of the easiest 'big jobs' we have done on our 1885 downtown Victorian house since we moved in 25 years ago. Old homes always carry surprises, but Yuill and his team were prepared and did a professional job throughout. Minor follow ups on some details with a tricky wood-slate floor combo.

Great plaster and painting work. Gutted in one day. Fantastic restored ceiling moldings. Even took most of the squeaks out of our 130-year old stairs! Job was cleaned up and left neat every day, so much so that we could stay in the house throughout. Tricky downtown location made it necessary to remove debris weekly, and Yuill always made his happen without asking.

Only North on Sixty could have provided such great new custom milled white oak floors needed in this old house. Pricey but good. Basic contractor timeline, but it helped that we knew what we wanted. Yuill was always responsive to our questions and willing to work with us to achieve the final vision, a professional first floor Victorian restoration.

We would definitely hire North on Sixty again.

DECK

Custom Deck, not so custom. Yuill built a deck by pallets and installed them but unfortunately they did not scrib the wood pallets to the existing building or curbs and left up to 1" gaps which really made the installation look poor. The pallets also did not line up with other pallets which resulted in a really poor craftsmanship. Yuill refused to correct those gaps as he seems to think that it will not look better but agreed that he would correct them if the architect deems these to be a deficiencies. At no avail, the architect wrote a report noting those items to be corrected as craftsmanship was not very well done and Yuill then argued with the architect that he is not correct in his observation.

two projects

This was our second renovation with Yuillbuilt and again they exceeded our expectations. The workmanship and a VERY attentive team made this renovation a breeze. I would go for a third one but should probably wait a little...

major renovation

in 2011/ 12 Yuill and his crew helped to transform our mid century modern home with 200 year old historic roots into a warm and beautiful blend of new and old. It took 6 months. They had excellent suggestions for using reclaimed wood and materials. Workmanship was very good and all issues were addressed, even a couple of years later when small deficiencies arose. They replaced windows, bathrooms, put in floors, redid the large basement, helped us choose the insulation process, created a beautiful transition from another kitchen contractors installation to a wall of walnut. This is not the least expensive contractor you will find, but one with creativity and passion for wood and design. I have recommended them a number of times.

Reclaimed wood, Structural work, plumbing and drywall finishing.

By referral, I was introduced to Yuill and his company (North on Sixty/Yuill Built) in 2012. After witnessing the fine craftsmanship that he had displayed in a downtown Toronto lighting showroom and in a couple of local coffee shops, my wife and I had decided to retain his company to assist in renovating our 110 year old home. Yuill had taken the time to consult with us on our varied renovation options and offered to assist us (during a very busy time for his firm). As an additional bonus, their sister company; North on Sixty operates a mill (near Algonquin Park), as well as collects reclaimed wood materials. Based on our decision to use reclaimed wood as the feature material in our home, the choice to hire Yuill was easy to make. He and his crew had performed flawless structural work to our home and as our budget allowed, had also installed and finished drywall and performed plumbing repairs. Throughout the renovation stages, Yuill had always made himself available for consultations and had been an anchor for us in ensuring that the process was performed and the end product was delivered to our high standards. We have recommended Yuill and his two companies to many of our friends and family members and have heard nothing but positive reviews about their performance as well.

Home Renovations

I found the firm to be creative and have good staff. There were initially some warranty issues but all were resolved to satisfaction. Company was patient with initial design stages in entertaining options and ideas.

Cabinet

Current kitchen was built by this company. Wanted to add a cabinet that would be an exact match to the current cabinets. He wanted 2 k for one cabinet, we justified the ridiculous price thinking we were getting an exact match, they installed a cabinet that was obviously not a match, half instead of 3/4 in gables, wood looks totally different, stain does not match. Plus the installer broke it during installation. Yuill offered to do an on premises stain match, unfortunately that does not solve the problem of the cabinet looking totally different than the rest of the kitchen.
