Granite Counter and back splash

In today's climate it is unfortunate to hear of people who suffer as a result of a company bankruptcy. Be that it may, if Yarrabee were still in business I would have recommended them without a doubt. Our experience with Ann and her team of workers and installers was top notch. They were patient (as it took sometime to find the right granite) educated ( knew their product, what to expect from it, how best to template and cut it)kept our best interests in the forefront(redirected us on a back splash choice which would have resulted in a huge disappointment) and completed it within our time guidelines of end of June 2008. They were a great company.

granite countertop

I purchase my dream home, moved in Feb. but the granite from the builder would cost me too much, so I did my research and came across Yarrabee as a very respected and trustworthy company, my mistake, I could have gone with a small company with not much experience but I decided not too, next mistake. My first meeting at Yarrabee went really well with Henna, went over to several granite suppliers and pick my stones, did the deposit (cheque) third mistake. The installation would have been on the 26th of July, 2008 and you guess it they went bankrupt on the 21st July, 2008. Sorry to all the people who did a deposit with a cheque. I believe Yarrabee knew they were going under but they did not care for the people who had kept them in business for so many long years. Good luck with your new kitchen cabinet business Paul S.

Counter Top

Like some of the other posts, I put down a deposit and tried to contact them for a follow-up to take the final measurments and no one return any of my calls. The only reason I found out they were out of business was a email form Danbury Auction indicating that they were liquidating the assets. If you paid by credit card, call your credit card company and file a dispute!!!!!

granite bar countertop

The sign on the door is now from the receiver. Apparently closed Sept 3. They took a deposit the beginning of Aug, measured in mid-August and were supposed to deliver this week. If you contact the receiver regarding your deposit, they tell you to contact your credit card company. The credit card company told us it could take 60-90 days to know if the charge will be reversed.

Kitchen Countertop

(This review should be a zero, but HomeStars' system does not a rank that low!!!)

I have heard from reliable sources this weekend that Yarrabee has declared bankruptcy.

This would tie in with my inability unable to contact Yarrabee since 21 August 2008, merely days after putting down a deposit on a countertop (yes, I e-mailed, phoned (everyone in the office and left voicemails which went unreturned) and even visited the office (which was 'Closed for Inventory')).

If you have placed a deposit on a countertop - my recommendation to you is either stop the cheque or contact your credit card company to dispute the charge.

It's a pity that a company with such a great reputation on here could do this to their customers without any notice.

Installation of kitchen counter

We walked in to Yarrabee on December 12, 2007 to see what was on offer and ordered a Ceasarstone kitchen countertop on the spot. It was installed on December 17 and 20 -- yes, before Christmas!!! -- and the only reason the whole thing wasn't done on the 17th was that we weren't finished building the peninsula part of the counter would go on. Unbelievably fantastic service from Jessica Bolton and Kevin Benoit as well as the measuring and installation crew. The installation guys could have made some small adjustments to make the counter completely level but, really, in an old house there's only so much you can do. They even took the time to consider and vote on which faucet we should install. Highly recommend.

New Granite Countertop

Got a great online quote from Yarrabee, went for an appointment the third week of November and decided to go ahead with new granite countertops for the kitchen. The countertops were installed December 7th! less than a month after we purchased and they look amazing. Our whole experience with Yarrabee was terrific, from picking out our granite slab, having the template done to the installation, everything moved forward quickly and was done with a great deal of professionalism. Thank you Jessica and Kevin!

Kitchen Renovation

Wow...I thought getting a countertop was a simple thing! Go to Yarrabee and get educated by the owners, and sales staff, its a fascinating world we live in. These guys tell you everything there is to know, including tours of their factory, with a glass of wine if you like...I compared them to a big-box store quote and there price was almost 40% less, and I got to pick my slab, with way more choices of edges and we even helped in placing our templates to direct them on how we wanted our island to look...Superb finish and when we noticed a small problem 3 months later, they sent a uniformed courteous rep. immediately. First class company in a not always friendly world. We recommended them to our friends and we all still talk about their company, Cheers to the Yarrabee team, Paul with his "thorough is best-cards on the table" attitude, should become a corporate coach for retailers!

Company Response

Barry, We really appreciate when a client makes a public announcement of their experience with Yarrabee, and we take the Homestars site very seriously. I myself have been in this business for 13 years, and I still find stone as fascinating today as my first day. So amazing is stone that we think the Yarrabee approach is the industry's finest. Our process allows our clients to celebrate or more cliche 'Romance the Stone' by considering its every component, placing templates strategically to capture every stones' original beauty. Thank you again, I'm glad you understood and appreciated our efforts.

Bathroom Renovation Project

This was our first ever luxury bathroom renovation and we wanted something new and timeless. Sylvia's recomendations turned out wonderful. Their install crew was prompt and professional. We paid a little more, but we received outstanding service. Good job guys!

Company Response

Steven, we appreciate your comments. Although we are poised as a 'high quality-high value' company, we insist on the finest installation methods which tend to cost more than other contracting firms methods. For instance on new homes requiring large expanses of stone flooring, we believe that a Schluter 'anti-fracture' membrane should be applied prior to stone installation to ensure timeless enjoyment over the years.

Kitchen Counter

I used early this year to fabricate and install a kitchen counter. The fabrication job was good but the installation was terrible. In an attempt to cut corners they use MDF strips instead of a solid plywood build up. If MDF gets wet it will weaken. In my experience the customer service provide by Yarrabee disappeared after I signed their contract - My calls were not returned. Yarrabee's installers are not employee's of the company but hired subtrades. My counter top was installed unlevel and they refused to fix it. I eventually had to approach another granite installation company to fix the work that Yarrabee performed. The company could not believe the poor installation quality that yarrabee had provided. As a sales pitch they offer a warrenty, however the warrenty has so many clauses in that would void any claim you may have. If you are debating using Yarrabee besure to do your research and ask a lot of questions about how they install the counter top. Ask other granite companies how they install their counters and make an educated decision. If you do decide to use Yarrabee renegotated the payment terms so they dont take all your money before they install the counter. Else you will not have any leverage and Yarrabee has no reason to correct any problems that you may have!

Company Response

While being arguably Toronto's premier choice for countertop fabrication by the most discerning homeowners and designers, it is obvious that other companies would create false reviews. To respond to what we believe to be a false review, probably generated by a competitor. The use of MDF in the kitchen: It is very well known that MDF is a very precisely machined, perfectly straight material ideal for cabinetry and countertop bases, and comprises aprox. 90% of all kitchen cabinetry. It is far less susceptible to flexing than plywood, thus making it the number one material used for substrates by all fabricators. The worry of moisture contact is negligible, since if installed properly cabinetry and counter base will never contact with water. Yarrabee understands that customer service after the sale, after the install and well after the warranty, receive the utmost attention, and this is the principal reason why we publish all management cell phone numbers and we never limit times our clients call us. I believe this review is false, since at no-time was I ever conatcted by somebody named &quotCladius&quot, which if there was ever any kind of deficiency in installation we would have acted swiftly to remedy this type of complaint. We realize the importance of satisfying 'EVERY' client, and the effect of residual business by providing a perfect countertop everytime. I invite &quotCladius&quot to call me on my cell phone # at 416 909-2617, for me to offer you full payment for any out of pocket expenses, if you are indeed a legitimate person. Yarrabee provides at no extra cost full build-ups under all its countertops, when required, which other companies charge for, 2&quot profiling where others give only 3/4&quot, under polishing where others leave rough, and so on and so on. These are just a few reasons why the experts prefer Yarrabee, and why we are usually a featured value added manufacturer when people are selling their homes. Our 2 year warranty is transferrable. Our payment terms are an industry standard with 1/2 down payment as deposit and the remaining by install. Yarrabee's reason to correct every problem before us is obvious to satisfy our clients and develop further our very strong network of satisfied clients, this is the principal reason a client of Yarrabee ALWAYS has leverage.
