We came home to our hot water heater spraying water all over the basement. The problem turned out to be a pinhole leak in the hot water pipe leading into the tank. The hot water heater's a rental, so we called Direct Energy to fix the problem. They showed up in the morning, and told us it was a plumbing vs a tank problem, so we'd therefore be charged their plumbing rates. And we'd have to rebook an appointment with one of their plumbers. And he said it would be a messy job. We told them to forget it.
Called Mr. Rooter instead. Never used them before. Their office seems to run in a very organized fashion. Set up the appt easily and was happy to learn that there was no assessment fee. Also happy that a plumber could come out within a few hours. Robert Plantic arrived a few hours after I called. He was very professional, told me I needed a new elbow joint and then gave me a quote. I gave him the green light to start work. He completed the job in less than an hour. He used a plastic vs copper fitting as he says it's more durable and doesn't cool down the hot water the way copper does.
Hot water is back on, and there are no problems so far.
