Driveway Asphalt Paving

Vince was contracted to asphalt my 75 year old mother's driveway in July 2015. After the work was completed my mother noticed that the boulevard was not completed eventhough we paid for the entire driveway. Vince claimed that he is not allowed to touch the boulevard as this was the city's property and the permit would not cover this section as a result. We called the permit office and they confirmed that the entire driveway including the boulevard was indeed included and that they didn't know what the contractor was talking about. After discussing with Vince he then said he needed $500 more to complete the work or else we would have to find another contractor. This now put his price well above everyone else but we didn't feel we had much choice as another contractor would charge more for now such small job so we went forward. A few weeks later after a rainstorm a pool had collected near the side of the house It appeared that the driveway was not level and steering water away from the home. After months of calling Vince my mother finally got him to comeback to look at the issue. He reluctantly agreed that there was an issue but said he was not going to redo that portion of the driveway. All he would do is add more asphalt where the driveway sank. It's been over a year now and the problem has still not been resolved and Vince won't return calls. There is a basement window where this pool collects which we now see signs of water damage on the inside of basement. Vince basically took advantage of a 75 year old woman. He should be ashamed of himself.

Company Response

We go through a process with the city to get a paving license to work within the city each year as any company should. Individual driveway permits are required for each home according to toronto by law. Boulevards are allowed to be paved as long as a permit is issued. For this project boulevard was not included in the driveway cost as your mother being an older lady wanted to keep costs low. With a sudden change of mind we did give the additional cost to re pave the boulevard. We should have dealt directly with you as passing on messages through your mother has lead to a game of broken telephone. Sorry if you are not satisfied and feel that way
